Nahhh. Maher wasn't duped - he wanted exactly what he got. He's an old Boomer who wants to be at the new A-listers' table with Joe Rogan and his imitators. He's ready to jettison the liberals in his audience for some of that action.

Revealing just how selectively this administration respects national sovereignty. With Canada and Greenland, Trump threatens invasion enthusiastically. With El Salvador, Trump sees sovereignty as sacrosanct.

I think it's the opposite: They quibble at the margins (e.g., "effectuate" vs. "facilitate") while endorsing the essence of whatever Trump wants to do. That way, casual observers still think they're relevant, but they never actually fight Trump.

How it started // How it’s going

DONALD TRUMP: I am supremely powerful. I am globally respected and feared. All over the world, leaders of the major powers tremble and quake when I speak. ALSO DONALD TRUMP: Sorry, I have no influence with the president of a tiny developing nation in Latin America.

Is there a "wide belief that racism is simply a matter of manners"? Bouie's a good guy, but I think this view is limited to his acquaintances in the elite commentariat. Among us yokels, there are people who think racism is awesome and people who think racists are evil assholes. That's it.

It’s been much more than 24 hours. Seems like this was fake news.

Friday night Tequila Tweet: Fuck any American President who finds out an innocent man was mistakingly deported to an El Salvador prison and doesn’t IMMEDIATELY demand that man be IMMEDIATELY returned to America. And btw, fuck any American President who’s ok with deporting ANYONE without due process.

So the man who is actively dismantling our democratic institutions, the man who is currently saying fuck due process, snatching innocent people off our streets, and dumping them into foreign gulags, that man is “charming” in private? Do I have that right @billmaher?

No exemptions though for the things poor people buy: inexpensive shoes, clothes, bedding, tableware.

White Supremacist are obsessed with [white] birthrates because they believe The Great Replacement Theory (a fear that black/brown/Muslim people will produce more babies that will replace white Christians). Tucker Carlson believes this, Elon Musk believes it, and so did Adolf Hitler.

Trump is defying the Supreme Court.

One difference I see is that they don't seem to plan on using these prisoners as slave labor. It's imprisonment under brutal conditions solely for the pleasure the Trumpers and their supporters take in watching them suffer.

They absolutely voted for mass deportations. They didn't understand tariffs or assumed he wouldn't do them. And they assumed every deportee would deserve deportation, and the tariffs would be carefully crafted. Biggest problem: they believe Trump is smart and acting in the country's best interest.

I think the Trumpers would absolutely tell Bukele to have Abrego Garcia killed if they thought the courts could force them to get him back. But they know they have all the power and the courts have none. Paradoxically, this might be what saves Abrego Garcia's life, even if he'll never be freed.

Just a reminder that these are the people purporting to be outraged by antisemitism on campus. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/11/u...

Yup. Also irresponsible: "erroneously" and "inadvertently."

My problem with the word "evil" is that it's so vague as to be meaningless. It's like trying to diagnose a medical condition by saying "pain." Everything evil is evil in specific ways. I'm interested in the specifics of depravity, not applying some booga-booga word that clarifies nothing.

Even if the letter was meant for a client and was addressed to this lawyer by mistake, this should be a national news story.

I think it will be illegal to be trans in the US by 2028.

Of fuck off, #BrokenTimes. Children are dying because of his disinformation but because he wears jeans and hiking boots, he's "stoic," "nervous," and "hitting his stride." Save your empathy for those he is killing.

This is meant as a joke, but the first sentence is actually quite accurate.

The fact that this guy is from Deutsche Bank is

You're absolute fucking garbage.

Crazy that four dems voted for the save act... Voter suppression.

It's strange how willing Americans are to end due process for people they don't like, even though when you ask most Americans their favorite novel they usually cite "To Kill a Mockingbird."

Over 650 known cases so far, and most have nothing to do with pro-Palestinian advocacy. The admin seems to be engaged in a breakneck effort to kick out every foreign student who has had even the most minor interaction with the police possible, including for TRAFFIC CITATIONS and JAYWALKING tickets.

yeah man, please make my 85 year old great aunt prove her citizenship to vote in rural georgia, this definitely isn’t reminiscent of anything in the american past

This Day in Labor History: April 11, 1986. Police fired tear gas at strikers at the Hormel plant in Austin, Minnesota after UFCW Local P-9 shut down the plant by blocking the main gate to the building. 17 workers were arrested that day. Let's talk about this brave strike and the horrors of the 80s!

Shorter Marie Gluesenkamp Perez: The SAVE Act sucks, but I voted for it because it's very important to solve the completely fictional problem of voting by non-citizens. gluesenkampperez.house.gov/posts/gluese...

That Supreme Court Ruling Won't Get Kilmar Abrego Garcia Home (new post) nomoremister.blogspot.com/2025/04/that...

Federal spending is *up* under Trump according to the Wall Street Journal. Chaos is not actually the same as cost savings. Actual budgeting is a kind of actual policy-making and takes real work spread over real time. Running around breaking stuff isn't that. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

A 2023 poll showed that a ban on congressional stock trading was supported by 87% of Republicans, 88% of Democrats 88%, and 81% of independents. publicconsultation.org/united-state...

gee i wonder why voters might've been confused about the existential stakes of the last election

But bettors at Kalshi think there's a 96% chance Trump will reduce the national debt. LMAO. kalshi.com/markets/kxde...
