Well, it does appear that the realm of legality is greatly expanded. Certain kinds of fraud are apparently de facto legal, as well as flavors of insider trading.
This is every damned regulation.
Every last one of them, even the stupid EPA Fleet MPG was put in place because some assholes were causing serious societal harm because it wasn't explicitly against the rules.
NEW LEGAL STANDARDS & PROCEDURES: Trump's EO #14219 & related Memo contain a new legal equivalency & standard. Regulations must "comply with the Constitution, laws, OR Administration policy." "Facially unlawful" actions are repealed "without notice & comment."

Many of them act as if the Gilded Age, Roaring 20s, and Great Depression never happened. In Marc Andreessen’s narrative FDR was a “monarch” and the social safety net wasn’t implemented democratically. If you want to roll back certain programs that’s fine, but stop with this monarch & cabal nonsense.
LoL: "but this is turning into a full blown kleptocracy". Um, seems like it's been a planned kleptocracy for at least 50 years, maybe for the whole life of the GOP.
Will this person go back and see who was predicting this administration would be a white-collar crime ring, and then reconsider how much they value those sources' opinions? I'm guessing no!
I’ve been saying since before the election that it would be great if rich fools in the $5 million - $500 million net worth range understood that they won’t be part of the oligarchy, they will be made serfs.
Another excellent point. Lonsdale was saying people he knew (not him) were going to leave America if Harris got elected because they were scared and I wanted to be like “bro, can you spend like 15 minutes, won’t even take 5 if you’re as smart as you think, reading about how Russian oligarchs die?”
Everyone likes to think they are a couple of good stock trades from being wealthy and benefit from what they think Trump will do for them. Once they realize there is a whole other level of wealth that are really the only ones who will benefit, they have this guys reaction.
I don't know him, so maybe that's why I can't fathom what he thought was illegal that should be legal and why we'd celebrate whatever it was that the Trumpers would do.
They literally did. They've been getting scripted "personalized" emails and texts from "Donald Trump" & bro was sure he had paid for a seat on the gravy train.
“thanks tom we are here outside ‘leopards eating peoples’ faces’ party hq & we are being told that party representatives are unavailable for comment because leopards have eaten their faces
a sign on the door reads ‘we did not think that the leopards would eat OUR faces please respect our privacy’”
I was wondering a few days ago about the MAGArons who probably still think the pro-Duterte orange dink is going to legalize weed instead of say, cracking down of states where it's legal.
Wow they just can't help themselves. More insider trading? Either they're incompetent at committing criminal acts, or they don't care anymore if the whole world sees
These guys are always focused on the fact that breaking the systems means they can now plow through anyone less powerful than them. They forget that it's been restraining people even more powerful.
Yeah, I have a friend who makes enough money p/a that he never has to really worry about it. But he THINKS like he's in the 1%. It never occurs to him their interests might be at odds with his. And it won't, until they fuck him and it's too late.
Unfortunately, a core part of MAGA is merging your own self-identity with Trump, so that you inherently assume that he is always looking out for your self-interest, even if you don't understand it.
But a lot of people who voted for him aren't MAGA, and those people are starting to get it.
Something which just occurred to me (I'm sure it has been noted by scholars of autocracy, I just didn't notice it until we got a bunch of FAFO posts this week):
These ppl have stunning limitations to abstract reasoning. Maybe synthetic as well, but definitely abstract. IIRC the last cogdev critical
period, which occurs at the very end of adolescence, is higher order abstract (i.e. why some v. smart ppl struggle with calculus & beyond in their late teens b/c they haven't hit this dev phase yet!)...
I wonder what happened. Something is very wrong if norm breakdown parses purely as "yay for me!"
Yeah, these guys picture themselves as the big bosses of the world, but their illusion gets shattered once the actual big bosses start robbing and they realize they are just regular Joes and Bobs, the little people.
They believed her wanted the presidency to save America. The truth hurts, the man cosplayed as a billionaire for years, now he's making sure he's well in that club for good!
Wow, it's almost like the laws and regulations existed for a reason and did not just magically appear because of the regulation fairy.
Gonna be 4 years of dipshit libertarians discovering how they were being protected from the ultra rich and not being held back from being the next titan of industry
I don’t think there’s ever been an insider trading case where the “misappropriation” has been of government information. I’m not sure the wobbly basis of insider trading law even makes sense in that case.
I sort of feel bad for the dude because he was naive enough to genuinely think his fellow Silicon Valley CEOs simply wanted to roll back antitrust regulation, not become oligarchs.
His whole world must be crashing in front of him right now.
right?
People need to read up on why we have anti trust laws.
The 1860s-1900s were not a great time for free markets or elections tbh. Robber barons and political machines ruled 🫠 this is a great time to study because it shows us that companies can and will fck us over if give the chance 🫠
Why are we giving him this much credit? His two hits were exploiting teens and dumping his flash in the pan success on companies desperate to burn cash for quarterly numbers
I looked up one of his apps. It didn't seem that harmful. He seems not as awful as many of them but these 'creators' are all so clueless because of money fixation they can never be good either.
I don’t understand options trading but maybe someone who does can answer - there’s gotta be a counterparty on these trades right? If I buy $100 in contracts and cash out $500k, whoever wrote the contracts is out that money, and presumably pissed off if I’m trading on non-public info?
MAGA getting what they were cheering for because they thought they would be exempt...they got what they voted for because they hated others more than they cared about the facts.
The rich keep getting richer. Do they realize that they are quickly creating the environment for a revolution? It'll look a lot more like the French one rather than the American I one. People are sick and tired of being sick and tired. If 100s of millions of people have nothing to lose, watch out.
I work at a gas station. day after trump took power dude walked up to me and said "the prices haven't dropped yet??? that's not right. trump will fix this" dead serious dude though trump would magically lower prices the next day.
Reminds me of 2016 when UK foolishly voted themselves out of the EU. Millions of Brits thought they would wake up the next day and that would be that. No clue they were setting themselves up for years of painful negotiations in which the UK government held very few cards.
A colleague wanted to know why the Eastern Europeans weren't being dragged away in vans. He said this in the hearing of a Polish team leader. Instant suspension, gross misconduct, dismissed at hearing the following week.
When Trump was asked early on about egg and other prices not dropping he said something like “well, it’s really hard- you can’t just do that” and immediately MAGA started saying “well, it’s hard- he can’t just do that” and then started blaming Soros and globalists and 5G and Hunter’s laptop and...
Honestly. Not jailing bankers and giving these multibillion dollars corps bailouts I think was the beginning of the end of democracy and trust in governmental institutions. And Citizens United. Can’t forget abt Citizens United 😑
What really pisses me off is that these same guys denigrated anyone who said this would happen. They deliberately, willfully ignored trumps entire history of criminal fraud and then act shocked that he's committing fraud on an hourly basis.
When all this is over, wtf do we do about them?
Retraining. They can learn useful skills. I’d be happy to take him on for some training in the bakeshop. Working with his hands will make him feel useful and prevent him from continuing to hurt himself and others with harebrained ideas.
Lmao. One thing I’ve learned being a tech guy engaged with politics and that tech guys have no idea who the real political insiders are. They think it’s them (probably because they have money), but it is very not.
They think it's them because they think they are smart enough to make the system work for them. But then they find out there's a whole other group that is really in control.
The power structure of the Dems is, like, designed to exclude them. That’s probably bad in an objective sense, but it is what it is and they’re so naive about it.

Wait not like that!

It's so bloody efficient, especially when it owns the legislature.

Every time.
They're so angry at corruption they're missing out on. Not the corruption, just the fact that they're not with the in crowd.
Suckers.
