Wonder doesn’t flinch. It’s our compass pulling us toward curiosity, creativity It reminds us: #science & #discovery are good. Here’s a moment that stirred mine: a new PI(3,4)P₂ probe illuminating the cell membrane & endosomes. Marvel with me. Captured on #FluorescenceFriday for #MicroscopyMonday

Actin sun.

Getting involved as an organiser of one of our Workshops is easy. We focus on the logistics, so you can focus solely on the science. Watch this video to hear from previous organisers. youtu.be/eShrxWQbx3Q The deadline to propose a topic for our 2027 Workshops is Friday 30 May. bit.ly/42GXN0G

Giulia Viola, Torsten Wittmann @microtubule.bsky.social and colleagues @ctbatucsf.bsky.social use protein nanocages to benchmark fluorescent proteins in live cells. Highlight: journals.biologists.com/jcs/article/... Article: journals.biologists.com/jcs/article/... #OpenAccess #ReadandPublish

Seven co-first authors, seven co-last "senior" authors, and a table of contributions - this is getting out of hand www.cell.com/cell/abstrac...

Non-profit journals are on the critical list. The cause: academics obsession with the Nature brand, coupled with the APC $ model. Some will argue it doesn’t matter (“all as bad as each other”). But the fact is undeniable and it’s good guys who put money back into science like COB who are losing..

We’ve been thinking about how people consume their news & how we can better share research published in JCS. We came up with ‘JCS snapshots’, which allow the #cellbio community to hear and see the key research findings from the authors in these short talks. #AuthorVoice #AudioVisual #JCSSnapshots

Problem cryo-ET structure alert. A recent paper by Lange et al. in @natcellbio.nature.com (tinyurl.com/38s6a4dn) reported an unusual-looking model of the prohibitin complex in situ. We asked: how was this structure generated? Our reanalysis offers an explanation: tinyurl.com/mszdtwxx 🧵

I cannot wait for this meeting, it's going to be awesome

Today's light sheet video of actin dynamics in cytotoxic t cells... so much fun to come!

Looking forward to the Physics within the Cell workshop on 16th June. Join if you want to discuss molecular motors and intracellular transport with me. More info here: iop.eventsair.com/pwtc2025/

Great to see this issue out! Huge thanks to our Guest Editors, Ana Garcia-Saez and Heidi McBride (@mitodynamics.bsky.social), for coordinating it! #mitochondria

First full day of the Jacques Monod Conference "Molecular Basis for Membrane Remodelling and Organisation" at Roscoff. Very enjoyable meeting so far with a wide range of talks from plants to synapses.

This year's poster winners with the Microtubule meeting organizers. Well done to all poster presenters for showcasing some great science!

New paper out! Would you like to fluorescently label the plasma membrane in live, fixed or permeabilized cells? I tested different lipid structures and labelling approaches to decide what makes a good membrane labelling probe for such imaging experiments! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Interested in #trafficking in polarized cells? a post doc Position is available in @boulantlab.bsky.social lab in sunny Florida to work on a joint NSF-DFG project with us in Berlin! Steeve also has a 2nd position on gut hypoxia and viral immunity! please spread the word and repost!

Would you like to organise a Workshop? Send us your idea for our 2027 #BiologistsWorkshops programme. We cover all costs so you can simply focus on the science. Apply by 30 May 2025. www.biologists.com/workshops/pr... #Collaboration #Science #Biology #Workshop

When the data are so exciting that your student is WhatsApping photos from the microscopy suite, and you’re eager to see the next, you remember why academia is still such a great career !

Better late than never. Folks, give my colleague Anne a follow if you are inclined to some motor/microtubule madness.

TL;DR: 😖

Antibodies don't work. NLRP3 is by far the most studied inflammasome — yet <30% of commercial antibodies were specific. Only 4 of 14 tested antibodies detected NLRP3 specifically. Antibodies must be validated before use. Full report by @ycharos.bsky.social : zenodo.org/records/1162...

A blutorial on my latest manuscript, which will appear as a Hypothesis article in Journal of Cell Science (no embargo requested as far as I am aware). If you are interested in mitosis/meiosis/kinetochores/evolution/deep phylogeny, please read it (1/n)
