[sudden realisation 40 years after the fact - was Winwood referencing 70s Nigerian pop with that album title? PROBABLY NOT]

Both managed serious chart comebacks in the Boomer era, too - So, Back In The Highlife Again

Ah, but I think that's the vague soundworld of (earlyish) Gabriel, as well - English soul crooner wannabe (nowhere near as skilled as Winwood) who, because he can't nail the holler of heroes, ends up settling into his own inimitable weirdo groove

The Beasties' audiobook is a work of art, too.

Paper Sun is such a banger, and the lyrics have fascinated me since hearing it on my dad's mixtapes - there aren't many songs that take such erotic joy in fantasising about being cheated on by your girlfriend

I think we can all agree that in the end mankind is to blame

I probably should have, but ultimately I enjoyed the book itself (the Challenger one, at least) and didn't want to stiff the author of a sale.

Ever since I started reading my daughter bedtime stories, I've become convinced I would be GREAT at it, which means I almost certainly would not be great at it. Though if anyone wants to throw some money at me and find out, I am surprisingly available...

their tourbus was covered in bootleg CDs of the Stones' 1970s tours. Just the loveliest band - and Bo and Carl every bit as good people as Johnny and Danny - and Jim a very sweet, deep and thoughtful guy. He introduced me to Michael Chabon's books on that trip, for which I'll forever be grateful.

I saw them a bunch of times on the tours for this record, and they were just magical. And, writing a profile on them for Kerrang!, got to visit OG guitarist Johnny Quaid's family's farm, and the grain silo that gave Jim his magical reverb. One of my very favourite trips of all time... the floor of

I bought the audiobook of Adam Higginbottom's tome about the Challnger disaster, to use up an idle Audible credit, and it was read so badly I suspected it might have been AI - emphases on weird moments, stodgy flow. Even worse, Debbie Harry's memoir, where she sounds bored by herself.

I wasn’t aware of that! I feel Wilco have their moments but I’ve also been bored by them on occasion, but MMJ were electrifying in this era, one of the greatest live groups I’ve ever seen, and continue to make excellent records.

we will have elections, there will be election manipulation especially in red states, gerrymandering will fuck some stuff up, but we will have elections and the single best thing we can do to ensure they are maximally free and fair is work very hard on voter turnout, it’s hard to hide a landslide

Don’t just call the protests violent. Who sparked the violence? What is the appropriate law enforcement response in a nation allegedly built on a fundamental right to protest? Contrast imagery and dialogue around Jan. 6 and what we’re seeing now. Their job is narrative. Ours is truth.
