I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F. 18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it. We made this website to tell our story: 18f.org

NEW: In November, I wrote a Guardian column headlined 'How to Survive the Broligarchy'. Pretty much everything predicted has now come true. What I'm launching today is part handbook, how to protect ourselves? And part manifesto, how to fight back? Please join me. 1/ open.substack.com/pub/broligar...

Absolutely @eddavey.libdems.org.uk

I keep reading that Zelensky shouldn't have risen to the bait. The man is human. He's seen tens of thousands of Ukrainians murdered, their cities blown apart & their children stolen. He was sitting by a man who's looting his country's minerals & praising Putin. And for 40 minutes, he held it in.

Unbelievable. Donald Trump has been invited to a state visit to the UK. We should not be rolling out the red carpet to celebrate this man. Agree? Add your name to the petition today: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/no...

The leader of the free world held a meeting in The Oval Office today. But he is now on a plane back to Ukraine.

We’ve registered the petition! It has to be checked so it’s pending… but we’re on it! We’ll let you know when it’s live! #StateVisitZelenskyy Petition: Scotland would like to extend an invitation for a state visit.

Ukraine now has an account on BlueSky. You are welcome to like , follow and repost this 🇺🇦

I finally decided to start cultivating more and more this platform since Twitter has become a major contributor to the worsening of my mental health sooo... can I ask you to help me building back here some visibility? I make colorful maps with lots of detail, thanks if you want to share them! 🙏

We saved our local library from closure by organising a strong campaign in Bollington. We found it was used more than most in its category in Cheshire East, so why try to close it? Savings were minimal We mobilised the community including our children The voice of the people does make a difference

Companies like BP are all about profit and extraction, with no interest in people or planet - both of which they continue to put at risk with their operations. Fossil fuel companies have no interest in you, your job, or your family. They want money for shareholders, and don't care how they get it.

Taking away life-saving support from some of the most marginalised people to give it to some of the world’s wealthiest arms companies is a disgrace. People will die as a consequence of Keir Starmer's decision to sell out to Donald Trump.

Your reminder that software developers are selling generative AI on the economic model of a primary school cake sale. Other people provide the essential ingredients at their own expense, and do the crucial work unpaid, while the sellers of the end product keep all the income.

My one a week #Scottish word #illustration - having your very own personal #extinctionrebellion protester - joy. I hate how they and their superglue #environment protest got 6yrs in jail & yet none of the farmers & their tractor tax protest even arrested for the same road blocking stunt. #Scots

Great article by Scott Santens on Universal Unconditional Basic Income and why sone rich guys want it banned:

Companies behind Great Britain’s gas pipes and power lines pocketed £3.9bn "excess profits” over the past four years after Ofgem misjudged their costs. Will we get a refund - no chance. Ofgem doesn't protect people. Need customer elected directors on the boards of all utilities.

Flamingo Land's appeal against the rejection of their mega-resort is absurd 🫸🦩 Highlights include trying to use housing policy as evidence when it's a tourist resort they want to build, not a housing estate. They are also still trying to disregard SEPA's flood risk warnings

For those of you who have never seen Kubrick's masterpiece Barry Lyndon, you now have no excuse. It's on youtube for free. It's wonderfully cast, a great story, and perfectly shot. Give it a watch, you won't regret it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkDq...

Denmark MP Rasmus Jarlov: "[US] has taken no casualties in Ukraine ... paid 4% of US defence budget for one year and that was too much for them ... they will surrender to Russia. We can not trust such spineless people ... If Russia invaded Poland tomorrow, they would make excuses and do nothing."

Here's why we ask you to follow our Bylines accounts: our volunteer citizen journalists put a lot of time and effort into their work. The more who follow, the more will read their articles. So, @sussexbylines.co.uk joined Bluesky late and needs a catch up. They publish great articles. Here's some:

"Anti-migrant politics will not build a single house, staff a single hospital or raise anyone’s wages. Instead, by echoing its rhetoric, the government is simply fuelling the rise of Reform UK" Well done to these Labour MPs, trade unionists, and members. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Today is #RandomActsofKindnessDay so we're giving people free access to books, information, free internet access and WiFi, a free warm space and a whole load of other stuff. FOR FREE. Just like every other day. ❤️ Libraries are amazing. #LoveLibraries

“Fear is strange soil. Mainly it grows obedience like corn, which grows in rows and makes weeding easy. But sometimes it grows the potatoes of defiance, which flourish underground.” - Terry Pratchett (Small Gods) It’s time to be a potato. 🥔 🥔🥔

My latest #Scottish weekly word #illustration based on my habit of constantly having a cuppa in progress by my side at work. And also the conference centre cleaner (she supplied the jammy dodgers), and office messenger joined me and the boss at tea break too. #coffee #cake #Scotland #cartoon #Scots

There's a small contingent of people online who get angry when you say this but: Wikipedia is unquestionably the most successful utopian project of the internet age, and its destruction would be a crime against humanity

A #graphic I adapted to #illustrate to my sons that their accusation is mistaken that their parents are getting slower with old age. Instead it is an #illusion entirely down to general #relativity. #Time moves much faster for us than for youngsters. I don't think I've convinced them though.

I make $20 every six monthsish on the combined streams of all four of my albums on all streaming sites. At Bandcamp I make about $10 every time I sell an album, physical or download. Use Spotify if you want, but if you like living artists making a living, buy something from them where they get paid.
