Pennies are essentially worthless. But if I stole 7 billion of them from Mark Zuckerberg, I think he’d call that theft. If your business model doesn’t work without breaking the law, you’re not in busiess — you’re in organized crime.

In all of this there needs to be a collective awakening to the necessity of data privacy and the importance of data deletion. One of the Biden administration’s big failings was not deleting critical records, and it seems like the thought never even occurred to them

Starmer told UK must repeal hate speech laws to protect LGBT+ people or lose Trump trade deal. Plus sacrifice the NHS, food and environmental standards, worker rights. Who governs? No thank you. Don't want to be the 51st state, or US slaves. Better to join the EU and Single Market.

“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.” Diary of Anne Frank January 13, 1943

This is terrifying in America. ICE agents are showing up masked—these abductions must stop. If you’re going to detain someone, show your face, present a warrant, and proper ID. Disappearing people from their families without evidence or accountability isn’t law enforcement—it’s state-sponsored fear.

I will never trust a country that thought it was a good idea to elect this ridiculous, malevolent man as its leader.

My cartoon for this week's @newscientist.com

If I threatened to burn down the houses of Allison Pearson or Toby Young they’d rightly call the police and I’d get prosecuted What is it about targeting Muslims or asylum seekers that gains an exemption? #TwoTierKemi

The UK car industry contributes £22bn to the economy and employs c 35k people. Universities contribute £265bn and employ nearly 400k, over 10x as much. Yet he seems ok to let that sector implode.

Nationalise British Steel because it offers a clear way forward. Keep the furnaces hot. Buy time. Launch a green steel transition with public oversight, investment in new technologies and workforce planning. This isn’t about ideology, it’s about economic security. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Congress could stop Trump’s tariff policy at a stroke. This story is ultimately not about presidential power, but about congressional weakness.

Rachel Reeves says that Trump’s unfolding trade war makes it even more imperative for the UK to improve its post-#Brexit trading relations with the EU, so why has she ruled out rejoining the EU customs union? www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Patron saint of being a twat 👇

Lot of party line votes here but still several Democrats crossing over on marginally less goofy Trump nominees. Wholesale opposition to all Republican priorities is a pretty obvious baseline and has been since at least J6 let alone in the midst of nuking U.S. trade.

Everyday I think about the fact that iceland jailed the people responsible for their financial crisis

Biggest commitment to a 3 second joke I've ever seen

Would very much like “heading off the threat of Reform/Farage” to STOP being the way government decides on policy. It’s done nothing but profound harm since 2016 and Farage is still going strong. It doesn’t work for anyone, except him. on.ft.com/42eewsY

Sorry to say I don’t know who to attribute this to. Wonderfully funny

This is Ripley. He was nervous about taking the stairs. May have panicked a bit. 12/10

🔴‘Elbows Up, Britain’: Canada’s Boycott of American Goods Spreads to the UK How British voters could hold the cards when it comes to resisting President Trump’s global trade war bylinetimes.com/2025/04/02/e...

Britain’s obsession with trying to negotiate exemptions from Trump’s tariffs is entirely the wrong approach. The overwhelming national interest lies in working with others to stand up to Trump and try to preserve as much as possible of the global trading system. Mark Carney is showing the way

This is delightful! One of those little personal stories that come gift wrapped on social media

I get that people like me have been saying "make closer ties with Europe" since the day after the referendum and for much of that time there were political arguments against. But if Starmer can't see that he now has full top-cover to do that, he really isn't very smart.

Boris Johnson has used his Daily Mail platform to slag off “Adolescence” and compare Starmer to Pol Pot. This is a politician, a paper and a headline that sum up the debasement of our politics and the toxic level of ‘debate’ it encourages. Grotesque that he gets airtime to insult us all like this.

1) Fox News is for real not showing stock-market ticker during this week's collapse. 2) Its economic news is "strong jobs report." 3) Every time I've checked in today, the coverage has been "illegal immigrants committing new crimes." This is state propaganda, on a par with North Korea or PRC.

Honestly? F**k off. I'd rather we had our dignity than your entitlement and grudging financial contribution.

Put up by Katy Brand today - this is the story over and over again

Asking rich foreigners to pay the same tax as everyone else is not "forcing" them to leave.
