Earnestness is underrated.

So, Portland, does this mean it's spring now?

democracy in michigan and wisconsin was crushed to the point of near-irreversibility until 2020 -- vastly worse than what trump seems likely to be able to do before 2028 -- and we fought back, inch by inch, until we took it back, despite Republicans having both structural advantages and real support

Hey. So let’s just clear this up. “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” IS NOT THE QUOTE. Oscar Wilde was a shady ass queen and his words have been sanitized and misconstrued. What he said was: “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.”

Ruby-crowned kinglet at Smith and Bybee Wetlands Natural Area today...

Me cuddling my partner: “Oh dear, your chest is cold!” “Better go catch them!” 🤔🧐🤔🧐🤨

I adore my partner @feydaley.bsky.social so much— “I refuse to give…H.W…. Cthulhu…oh no… what is his name…I refuse to give H.W. Cthulhu any power over my life. Fuck that guy.” (said in a Brooklyn accent, about Lovecraft)

Tons of free great Steam games to enjoy? Yes, please! Thread🧵

This is always my Philly take.

It’s time

what is a polycule but a writer and editor circle

Great resource

Really appreciate how this about building on top of existing ruins, rather than some kind of "pristine wilderness"

y'all ever see a take so bad you are forced to immediately go to sleep?

This is more directed at newly-turned-adults with shitty parents: Something you really gotta internalize is the fact that for the entirety of your relationship with your parents, you were a child and they were an adult. If you've been expected to ACT like a little adult, it's easy to forget that.

we need to make cynicism uncool. like having doubts in your heart and being overwhelmed is one thing, but a lot of us got trained by twitter to post our most cynical snark for engagement and that broke something in a lot of us. (me included!) giving up is not actually that sophisticated!

A comrade recently told me "never think a compliment" and it's stuck with me

Another thing re antidotes... the people you love, who you value... be in the moment with them. Not distracted, not on your phone, but fully present. Open to them. So you can see them and be seen. This feels even more important right now.

And now one slogan, to unite us all.

The way I was ~afeared- for a split second that was this was a real game lmao

In the midst of all justified dourness and despair, I have an absurd yet solemn conviction: every squirrel in existence has, in their squirrel-mind, the SNES Super Mario RPG battle theme playing. Perpetually. Always. It is always a 16 bit salsa party in there.

STATEMENT ENDS JANUARY 21TH (take 2!) This Tuesday for real, we're playing The Magnus Archives Roleplaying Game by @montecookgames.com! Players: Alvarance (twitch.tv/alvarance) Girlofdiamond (twitch.tv/girlofdiamond) @strangerpeace.bsky.social (twitch.tv/strangerpeace) With me (NetherVT) as GM!

I literally need everyone in games, regardless of discipline, to read this book.

With David Lynch gone, we'll all have to increase our weirdness output by 20% or more to compensate. Get to it, everyone.

Yes this is a David Lynch grief account right now, but it feels like I’ve lost a compass direction. I cannot overstate how vital his peculiar brand of strange as well as his immense wonder for the natural has been.

What can you say? Without David Lynch, we're all poorer. The world is a little less. One of the greatest artists of our time, who left us so many gifts, not least of which was his boundless love of cinema, an art form he shaped for all time.

"You do the work for the doing, not the fruit." RIP to the big weirdo David Lynch www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Kz2...

I never got the sense that Lynch’s weirdness was an affectation. He was just an odd guy who didn’t quite fit in and he was ok with that. We should have more room for weirdos who want to show us the weird things going on in their weird little heads.

If we can take one thing from the way lynch talks about art I think it should be to never again dilute your vision and don't put off any art you want to make because it all dies with you, there's no other way, there's no one else

Honor his memory by doing something strange, unraveling a riddle within yourself, and working on your favorite projects.

I’m gonna have breakfast with the family. There will be coffee. Heart’s a little more broken, but there will be coffee and maybe giving myself a little present. Thanks David, for the inspiration that has defined probably everything I have ever created.

💔

Lolsob. Seriously though, I need to launch TGOH this year so I can get to the rest of the games I want to make.

I think all the time about the interviewer who asked Meryl Streep “how did you not know about Weinstein” and she was like “I didn’t know because he NEEDED me not to know” it isn’t a character flaw to have been deceived by someone who is a deceit expert cultivating the cover of your faith & goodwill

I tried Sonic Frontiers last night. It felt nightmarish not in the sense of the janky or the horrific. It felt like the kind of Sonic you play in a dream and which lingers. Like BenDrowned the Sonic game. The Mansell/Zimmer vibes of the OST only amplified this feeling.

The academics in love, both desperately needing to use the bathroom, but are on such a raging info dump that they ignore it and they know if they don’t get it out of their mouths, as soon as they walk through the bathroom door, they will forget it, so they unhingedly potty dance at each other

Random shit I say while under a bridge in West Seattle: “Mozi, just say you’re a fucking narc, okay?”
