They will, but it’s not one for one tradeoff. What the US does science, in terms of scale, can’t be duplicated elsewhere, not without decades of massive disruption.

No, it doesn’t. The lies told about it - of which this article is a part - go some way to explain it. Focus on the liars, not the ones about whom the lies are told.

People pledged to follow the rules are always at a disadvantage to those determined to break them. Plus, there’s been very little indication anyone will have their back if they stand up to them.

I only just recently learned about the extortionate system libraries have to follow to stock ebooks, and was horrified. Did not consider that the authors would benefit from it. What am I to do with this ambiguous horror?
