I hope it's like the Spider-Man gang wars where it's usually a goblin playing everyone

Bernie is a king like King Arthur, he never spends time ruling but forever inspiring.

6. Oda said he wants a happy ending.
Can you have a happy ending and kill Luffy off? Sure.
But do you have any idea how hard that is? Ask Gurren Lagann fans. The ending, while loved, isn't exactly "happy".
And Luffy's death would be more tragic than Nia's. It's not even close.

5. The purpose of Luffy cutting his lifespan pre-ts was:
a) To show he isn't ready for the NW
b) His crew needed to get stronger so Luffy doesn't have to do this (per Usopp here).
Luffy having to keep shortening his lifespan = they failed. Their 2-year training was meaningless.

Consider also that the #1 cause of death is heart disease.
Luffy is a rubber man.
It's possible that when he cut his lifespan, he just lowered it from above average (100-150) to average (80-100).
Edward Elric didn't even have that going for him.

4. What about Luffy shorting his lifespan?
Not a big deal.
It's a common anime trope. Edward Elric lost some lifespan when he got impaled here. Never came up again.
Luffy losing his lifespan hasn't come up since pre-timeskip. It's implied Gear 2 no longer affects him like that.

3. Roger is OLD NEWS, guys.
Roger was the main Luffy parallel before we knew of Joyboy.
Now? Joyboy is the main parallel. It's been that way since Luffy's Awakening. The One Piece is Joyboy's treasure, too.
By the time we get to the end, Roger will be a distant parallel.

2. Certain moments in retrospect make less sense if Luffy dies.
Like what he told Sanji in Wholecake arc. Depending on how you translate it, this line is him saying "Our adventures are just beginning."
Wholecake is closer to end of the manga. If he dies, this scene loses impact.

From a thematic POV, this doesn't leave much room for an ending where Luffy dies in battle or faces execution.
Who would even give him a Roger-style execution? The new government now run by his dad and/or brother? LOL
Not to mention the global uproar from everyone Luffy saved.

1. From a thematic POV, it wouldn't fit One Piece's optimism.
OP is about a boy who felt lonely and wanted freedom... went to sea to find a family of outcasts just like him... attains total freedom and (unbeknownst to him) takes down the corrupt world government in the process.

If you can forget how bad the Dems and Reps fucked you over last time, you can forget about ASM2. Just sayin'!

What better example do you need of how American culture (and Western culture in general) is obsessed with consumerism and doesn't pay enough attention to the stuff that matters?
Let's get the Reps/Dems back in power, maybe they'll do it right this time... but Sony in control of Spider-Man again?! 😱

It's amazing how we all forget every 4 years how the previous political party in power fucked us over and just vote for them again...
...but 11 years later, the trauma of ASM2 still lingers on and we shiver at the fear of Spidey leaving the MCU because of it.
Shouldn't it be other way around?

Yeah but Kelly is too busy squatting on ASM like a good little BND'er

Plus Morrison will probably absorb and rework any bad writing from Wells
comment in response to

Yeah yeah, it's cuz of the success of the Deadpool movie... Doesn't change the fact Morrison wrote the best Batman run of the 21st century, one of the best Superman stories... and Wells has the worst Spider-Man run ever made LOL

Someone would probably get fired if they admit it lol
