So they can properly comment on what really happened instead of then getting contradicted later undermining their statement. And it won’t come from DHS at all. It’ll be from their own and media investigations.
For example: there already have been three conflicting stories about what happened.

This is one of the tools in their toolbox to discredit folks. Keep everything vague and/or lie, and when statements are made based on what people think or assume, the gov can then contradict and take all the wind out of the sails. It sucks but to be effective people need to make ironclad statements
