#mathstoday starting off Y12 conditional probability with one of my favourite worksheets featuring the Asteroid Creatures! Not sure if @davidkbutler.bsky.social has posted about it here where the sky is blue but here's the post on the other place and link drive.google.com/file/d/1dwtG...

I previously blogged about why I like getting students to compare how tricky they might find two similar-looking Qs (bossmaths.com/which-is-eas...) Here's a new pair that I hope might generate an "aha" moment for students.

I like mentioning #etymology links between key words from across the curriculum e.g. "vector" and "convection". Here's a topical one for today👇 (I personally don't present slides like this in class; I tend to prefer them as corridor display material.)

Had a great discussion in our department CPD about the link between student oracy, mathematical communication and understanding. How do you ensure students know which expression you mean when you are explaining? How do you explicitly teach them to talk about their maths? #MathsToday #iteachmaths

Ages ago I used this (non-calc) Q with my KS3 & KS4 groups. None saw the answer immediately; they all tried finding Alice’s and Bob’s numbers en route to answering the Q. Used it again with selective school-bound primary Ss. Surprised none saw the answer straight away either #edusky #Mathstoday

First post on here, so thought I'd share something I wrote a while back. A workbook for constructions and loci. It aims to solve a few common problems:

Given that 45 is the ninth triangular number, this must mean that 2025 = 1³+2³+3³+4³+5³+6³+7³+8³+9³ Unless someone does a Futurama, none of us will be around for the sum of the first ten cubes.

Might seem a little early, but here's a few Christmas maths activities for various levels - in case anyone actually plans their lessons that far in advance! github.com/loopspace/Te...

I'm a bit obsessed with old textbooks for children in mathematics. Particularly from the 50s/60s both from a graphic design perspective (some are so pretty!) and a content perspective.

Today is September Equinox, ie Point Of Inflection Day I have made a powerpoint to show students tomorrow, especially those studying second order derivatives and concavity www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/96oxq...

The proof copy of the TLMaths A-Level Maths Textbook has arrived for us to check! Really proud of this! #ALevelMaths @danihosford.bsky.social

Delighted to see that a new Series of Uncharted with Hannah Fry is on the way 🙂

Finally managed to get the websites www.frayer-model.co.uk and www.more-same-less.co.uk up and running again. For any maths teachers that haven't seen them in the past (or have and found them useful!) check them out. #UKMathsChat

In #CoreMaths I like to start the year with a lesson on using news articles to do some estimation or data calculations, to get the students talking and thinking about "real world" maths. Here are some recent news stories that I'm planning on using this year:

Currently writing some resources for AP Calc (US qualification) and it has some amazing multiple choice questions (and longer Qs too, but the multichoice are my favourite) which would be great to use in the classroom for teaching A level. Here are a few of my favs 🧵

New! A post that summarises some of the developments, trends and resources for maths teachers from the past year. Kind of like a mega-gems-catch-up post to make sure everyone is up-to-date. 💎 www.resourceaholic.com/2024/08/late... #ukmathschat

This place is really rocking now: mathematicala.bsky.social here! #UKEd #UKMathsChat

Let's see if we have enough #UKMathsChat and particularly A level teachers here now! I'm going to write a short guide for incoming Y12s starting A level Maths (&FM). Much will be setting specific, but does anyone have any top tips for making a good start that I can include?

This app at the moment feels like the start of breakfast time on the Traitors, with everyone excited to see who's going to arrive next 😅

Sadly mine have mostly gone but I do love etymology www.yesbutwhy.co.uk/blog/maths-e...
