Anyways what if instead of driving home every day even in terrible weather there was some form of commuter rail between the cities on the front range. Build my damn passenger rail!

Tonight I was driving home in a snowstorm and nearly cheered when I saw the plows on the road. Love to whoever's driving a snowplow this late at night, thanks for keeping the roads safe

Uh holy fucking shit

I started re-reading the Mars Trilogy this week, utopian science fiction is uniquely hopefully in times like this. It feels good to settle in with the ideas of building something and talking things through, forming a new world.

Without downloading any new pictures, where are you at mentally?

Stromatolites xkcd.com/3046

Donald Trump dusts off his sharpies and solves California's #water problems.

Anyways today I went downhill skiing (terrifying) and got sorted in the "advanced novice" group, which means I have a good grade in skiing which is normal to want and possibly to achieve.

My favorite cat owner activity is only letting them outside during terrible weather. Three inches of snow? Sure dude, go for it. Pouring rain? Whatever. It's so funny to see them instantly run back when outside isn't their climate controlled paradise

Re: recent reinstatement of the ban on trans service members: I have no words for how cruel it is that trans soldiers, airmen, sailors, etc were allowed to serve openly for a brief period only to have that yanked away. It must be so hard loving a country that clearly doesn't love you back.

The millennial experience is growing up with the internet, and watching it go from a free, open, democratic, and eclectic ecosystem to a wasteland of five websites controlled by billionaires, and now seeing it quickly fill up with AI-generated slop. I want our World Wide Web back.

Another issue with air quality reports is often that sensors are looking only at PM 2.5, or maybe the other criteria pollutants, but rarely monitor other compounds except for very specific sites of concern.

Nice to see an article coming out explaining some of those water distribution issues. I was talking about this a bit yesterday, but understanding how infrastructure works is important.

I think a big issue here is most people don't want/feel the need to understand any of the real infrastructure that makes their way of life possible. Most people don't think about where their drains go or how water gets to the taps. They don't care to know so they have weird unrealistic expectations.

I uninstalled Instagram in October because it was a time waster, reinstalled it for the holiday because I had time to waste, and suddenly every reel is a conspiracy theory what the FUCK

I got to go cross county skiing this holiday, though this is the least amount of snow I've seen in Montana in years.

I'm watching the famously bad movie Volcano. Weird anti-subway/public transit stance, hilariously bad "volcano solves racism" plot.... The stupid teenager chasing a toddler into an exploding building...

I hate the idea that high school math is never used again. It's constant in civil engineering, biology, computer science, a million different things. Math, like most science, is like a wall, everything builds on everything else

what were the four albums that dropped when you were in high school that defined your music taste forever? 1. Fang Island - Fang Island 2. The Taxpayers - God Forgive These Bastards 3. AJJ Knife Man 4. Best Coast - Crazy For You Yes, WAS very annoying in highschool, thanks for asking.

I follow way more people on Bluesky than I ever did on Twitter, mostly because of starter packs. It's great because I get a lot of variety in my areas of interest! Big fan of that feature.

Also speaking of music, Chappelle Roan has been dominating my running playlists for two years now, something reflected by how many times I'd put hot to go or feminininomenon on while doing hill repeats

Wow my Spotify wrapped says 2 things: my obsession with fun gay pop hasn't died down, and the rest of my music taste hasn't changed since highschool.

Got a new phone recently and couldn't remember my twitter password, so I guess I'm done with that site permanently.

I've spent the last few weeks reading about bacterial growth in granular filtration media and biofouling. I've learned a lot, but I feel like there's a whole project here if I had time/energy/funding to dig into it.

Trans people serve in the military at a much higher rate than cis people. This is for a variety of reasons, but about 1/5 of trans folks have been in the military. Using their service as a political football hurts morale, discourages others from joining, and is as bad as DADT era policies.

Trans people are just as capable of being patriotic and wanting to serve as anyone else. This will be the second round of "it's totally safe to come out guys!" Followed by "lol get out of the military." I've served with many trans soldiers, all have been great soldiers. This is disgraceful.
