"what can we do?" Fucking plan! Even if you can't do anything right now (which I think is arguable), you can plan next steps! Hakeem Jeffries saying it's a luxury to think about 2028 right now is pathetic.

They could try and form a plan. Figure out who to primary and run in our next elections. Work towards uplifting left politicians and judges to replace the gerontocracy. I dunno, take some notes from the McConnell playbook that worked for years while Dems had control.

Probably Cenk Uygar for me. It didn't take long to get that all his arguments were essentially "I mean, c'mon" and he was so condescending and insufferable. It's been wild to watch his shift into right-wing politics.

I just looked it up and they started enforcing passport checks around 2008

Fair enough, I knew a Ulysses in grade school, but it definitely wasn't normal 😄

Nah, I was definitely driving to Toronto going to raves as late as 2007 without a passport

Yeah same. I grew up in upstate New York, and for a long time you could just drive to Toronto without a passport.

Went to his page and he thought Breaking Bad was awful, so his opinion probably isn't worth much

Yeah I've heard lots of stories like that, which is really unfortunate. I even think industrial design would've been cool, but that's not as flashy as "architect", so it's not one of those majors councilors even think about

I remember being lost in high school. My guidance councilor asked what I liked and what I was good at. I said "I like drawing and I'm good at math." So they suggested architecture, which honestly has been pretty perfect for me. Sometimes you just need someone to make you aware of a career options.

Nah, I love torx. The bit never slides out when driving. It's not hard to own more than two types of bits, y'all

Ffs The Partition was brutal for India and Pakistan. It's like these idiots know OF historical events without ever reading about them

If folks need an alternative, McMaster-Carr is great. They're not a 1 to 1 comparison, but they have a lot of similar materials, and I find their website and app way easier to use.

Meant to write 'food kitchen' not 'good kitchen' 😅

Yeah, it takes effort. Getting involved in my local music scene in my early 20s helped me break out of my shell. Find friends and community where you can, maybe a community shop, or the gym, or volunteer at a good kitchen or something. Exposure to conversation helps make conversation easier.

When I had a surface-level understanding of him, I liked the idea of Tesla (even tho I argued for cheaper options). And I'm a space geek, so I liked SpaceX in the beginning, but was skeptical of the privatization of space. I'm not one for idolatry, so I never cared to know about him until he made me

Damn, next time I'm in an interview and asked where I see myself in 5 years, I'll just tell them "thinking about the future at this moment for me is a luxury" 😂

Yeah I was going to say the same, sounds like they were trying to stop kids from glorifying those shooters. I do remember black duster jackets were really popular with nerds back then, and those were banned in my school

There was a kid in my class who had really bad teeth, and everyone called him 'Vampy'. Admittedly terrible, but in my defense we were like 12. I said it in class once and got 3 days suspension. By the end of the year, the kid stopped caring and that teacher was calling him 'Vampy' too.

Ah ok, yeah that's fair. Penguin is good, but yeah, it is tiring to see these franchises milked dry. I thought "I See The TV Glow" was good.

Why didn't you want that to be the case? I haven't seen Challengers, but also heard from folks it wasn't good, so I didn't bother

I'm currently getting around to reading Buckminster Fuller's 'Operating Manual For Spaceship Earth' (1968), and while I do like a lot of his writing, it's interesting how much faith he puts in computers and the tech industry to save the world. I can see the potential it had, but not anymore.

I actually took a video of me dropping a cinder block in the middle of the basement to capture the 20 second reverb. There were leaks over the years and the dirt wing had plants and small trees growing inside. There were small raccoon tracks. The place was surreal and I got some great photos

There's one in particular where the client built a bunch of buildings for a science research complex, but this building was never claimed. So it say for over 20 years, just core and shell, never fit out. One wing was a dirt floor, slab never poured. The other had a concrete basement, totally barren.

This was fascinating. I work in architecture and many times I've had to survey spaces like this. Spaces where the previous tenant left years ago, there's no furniture, the lighting half works, there's stains and the smell of mold, the finishes are several styles past and clearly cheap when new.
