It’s people vs billionaires. Show up and defend your city from the oligarchy.
Email the Port KC board to demand they stop rubber stamping billionaire handouts.

On top of this, data centers destroy our planet and drive up our utility prices.
We need good schools, transit, housing, jobs, and food for our people.
At a time when Kansas Citians struggle to make ends meet, it is outrageous for PortKC to prioritize lining the pockets of billionaires.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai is a tech oligarch lining up behind Trump, supporting authoritarianism so that he and his fellow billionaire cronies can keep getting richer. Tech billionaires like Sundar have enough money to literally buy our democracy – they don’t need another taxpayer handout.

This is a bogus, sloppy plan that helps no one. But we have power to stop it and demand something better.
Send a new email to the Mayor & City Council demanding they fix this mess before riders and workers have to pay the price!

As a result of our collective pressure—1000s of emails, hundreds of calls, and direct action—Council & KCATA know that a less frequent, inaccessible bus system is deeply unpopular and harmful to riders.
They claim to have a plan on the table to fully fund buses. They’re lying.

📆 only 7 routes on weekends
⏱️ drastic cuts to frequency
🌜 limited service hours
👷🏾 union job layoffs
♿️ paratransit access impacted
NO WEEKEND SERVICE IS A BUS CUT.
LESS FREQUENCY IS A BUS CUT.
AND BUS CUTS KILL UNION JOBS.

Public health & safety, economic freedom, clean air, and more are all reasons why our elected leaders MUST do right by the people and fund buses.
No layoffs, No route cuts, No longer wait times, No excuses

❗️News broke today confirming that half of KC’s bus service will be cut and hundreds of workers laid off if City Council and the Mayor don’t act to fund buses.
The moment is here and it’s time to throw down before we no longer have a bus system to throw down for. 🚍

Thousands of people across Jackson County are counting on our elected leaders in the legislature to act in our best interest.
📧Email the legislators now demanding a permanent funding source!! smvmt.org/jacobuses

What we need is permanent funding for buses across Jackson County. The good news is it’s not too late.
Jackson County legislature can put bus funding on the ballot in April before KC is forced to cut service. In order to do this though, the legislature must pass the ballot ordinance by 1/28

Jackson County Legislators refused to use federal COVID money to fill the gap in bus funding. This isn’t the outcome we wanted, but this makes the upcoming month even more important.
Using this federal money to fill the bus system’s funding gap was always going to be a band aid solution.

They fought for billionaires, but will they fight for the people and better buses?
Email them now to show your support for long term bus funding.

Regional funding is critical to having a reliable transit system. We need people across Jackson County connected to jobs, healthcare, education and more community resources. Funding buses makes that a reality.

💪Our pressure led to an ordinance being introduced to fill KCATA’s $35 million funding gap with some of the money the county has. But we know we need long term solutions for transit funding. That’s why we want the county to put bus funding on the ballot.

With service cuts in multiple cities like Raytown, Blue Springs, Grandview and future cuts planned for Independence and Kansas City, county legislators are overseeing the largest collapse in public transit in Jackson County in the last 100 years.

Without additional funding, our buses are set to face major cuts to routes and services. We know that it’s possible—KCMO is scheduled to put to vote an increased sales tax in order to fund a new jail. Tell our legislators that we need Better Buses, not more jails!

We deserve Better Buses! Help us put pressure on Jackson County to create a permanent fund for transit. Currently, Jackson County has zero dedicated funding for transit. We want Jackson County legislators to commit to putting to vote a sales tax to fund our buses.
