Gift article: I read thru this nonsense, not once seeing it explained, that the Trump regime has two goals (1) billions in bribery to himself/his family & (2) punishment, if the bribe is not paid. It’s not exactly secret! Trump’s View of European Allies Raises Alarm www.nytimes.com/2025/02/27/w...

The wages of the richest 1% have skyrocketed 182% since 1979.  Meanwhile, the wages of the bottom 90% have seen just 44% growth.  Trickle down economics was always a hoax.

At some point very soon, the UK will likely have to choose whether to align its national security and foreign policy with the US or with Europe. The answer to this dilemma is obvious, but will our government recognise that?

This is a poor headline from the BBC. The US aren't offering a "deal" - they want the minerals in return for support already given. It's straight up extortion.

“Unlike Instagram, Flashes won’t include features like Stories, shopping tools, or advanced editing options. Instead, it will cater to users who want a clean, minimalist platform to share visuals without the distractions of complex features or algorithms.” Can’t wait!

Looking forward to @flashes.blue arriving soon metricool.com/bluesky-anno...

I'm going to post this video every day so we never forget what Trump did

"They try to destroy truth because truth is the greatest threat to their rule. As long as truth exists, they can be scrutinised and held wanting. Once it is vanquished, they define reality and there is no basis upon which they can be held to account."

@dcmsgovuk.bsky.social @lisanandymp.bsky.social @artscouncilengland.bsky.social #SimonMellor @artsprofessional.co.uk (2019)“trickle down” funding doesn’t work for many #artists, and routing funding through organisations “not very effective way of supporting the development of independent #artists”.

Tellingly, new £270m #arts #culture uplift announced by @lisanandymp.bsky.social (before she's reshuffled?) "a good day for *arts organisations*" (says ACE) while this and govt review scope of @artscouncilengland.bsky.social ignore pivotal contributions of individual #artists #makers and all....

Spot the gap - govt @dcmsgovuk.bsky.social review @artscouncilengland.bsky.social led by Margaret Hodge will consider impact of this national body's policies and operations on everything *other than* individual practitioners #artists #writers #dancers #musicians #photographers #communityartists

Donald Trump has been unanimously criticised by Ukraine’s allies for repeating Moscow’s claims about Volodymyr Zelensky. Mr Trump on Wednesday claimed the Ukrainian president was “a dictator without elections” and warned him to move fast “or he is not going to have a country left”.

Yes, the employee at McDonald’s should be able to afford rent, groceries, bills, health care and retirement plans with their paycheck alone. That’s what jobs are for.

I’m George Takei and I approve of this message.

Ouch.

🇫🇷🇺🇦 Macron: "How can we protect Ukraine in the long term against a new aggression? There is a whole range of responses," assures the President, who lists the rearmament of the Ukrainians, the sending of experts or even troops to non-conflict zones.

President Donald Trump said on the campaign trail that he wants to end the Department of Education and return teaching “to the states.” And now that he’s in office, he’s making good on that promise. Hear more from @rweingarten.bsky.social on what this means for kids.

NEW: “The sudden departure of Justice Department veteran Denise Cheung comes a day after President Donald Trump announced his nominee to lead the prosecutor’s office, Ed Martin, who has supported unwinding all January 6 criminal cases that the office brought.” www.cnn.com/2025/02/18/p...

It has not been the norm for incoming presidents to fire the Archivist of the United States. The president has the power of removal, but is required to notify Congress of his reasons, as @historians.org pointed out last week. That notification does not appear to have yet taken place. 🗃️

Groups advocating for unionized workers, taxpayers and small businesses sued the federal government Monday in an effort to stop the U.S. DOGE Service from accessing sensitive information maintained by the Internal Revenue Service.

NEW Making sense of what is happening in the United States Why there is perhaps not a constitutional crisis - yet By me Substack: emptycity.substack.com/p/making-sen... Personal blog: davidallengreen.com/2025/02/maki...

The greatest political scandal today is not what Trump is doing. It is the fact that congressional Republicans have given up their role in the constitutional system as a check on the executive branch. If we are in a constitutional crisis, it is as much on Mike Johnson and John Thune as anyone else.

New DWP evaluation of 'Work Choice' - a voluntary employment support programme for people with disability barriers to employment. Improved employment rates 8 years later. Headline finding: for every £1 of cost, returns of £2.98 for society and £1.67 for the Exchequer. www.gov.uk/government/p...

If Brexit had never happened… …we’d be much wealthier, with more investment in public services, better trade - and with our parliament & govt having spent the last decade doing far more productive things. 🇬🇧🇪🇺🇬🇧🇪🇺🇬🇧🇪🇺🇬🇧🇪🇺

Do it!

I arrived in the UK on a spouse and dependents visa, with “no recourse to public funds” stamped in my passport. I’ve given back to the young people, music industry, and research base of this country ever since, been a citizen for over two decades, and paid a hell of a lot of tax. I am an immigrant.

I don't see any good reason why college & university presidents shouldn't respond to this with an emphatic and unified "absolutely not." At the very least, the presidents of rich privates should not comply, and should be loud about it. There's no scenario where complying here reduces risk later.

THIS.

John Major is on R4 now being very critical of the Trump administration, which he calls very different to any US presidency he has seen. Major says JD Vance's speech in Munich was "not statesmanship" and it is odd to lecture about free speech while "cuddling Mr Putin".

and another thing: im not mad. please dont put it at the top of every CDC, HHS, and FDA website that i got mad.

Proud of prosecutors in SDNY and Washington who resigned rather than carry out DAG Emil Bove’s order to dismiss indictment against NYC Mayor Eric Adams. Integrity > politics and careerism.

Very proud of the 8 DOJ attorneys who have refused to dismiss the Adams case. Their oath is to the Constitution, not the president.
