There are times when you must speak, not because you are going to change the opposing side, but because if you do not speak, they have changed you.

***Taps the sign again.

My daughter's daycare just sent out an email about potentially needing to layoff staff because new babies about to start withdrew because of parental job losses. So if you're wondering how government layoffs and mass contract cancellations will affect the economy, here's an example

Today, more than 10,000 people across the United States and beyond Stood Up for Science. I feel deeply humbled, inspired, and energized—our work is far from over, but witnessing so many people unite to champion science and the hope it brings is truly incredible.

This is not considered an attractive message on International Women’s Day because they expect professional women to say things like work hard to break glass ceilings & work-life balance etc but I say just LOOK AFTER YOURSELF. That’s the essence of what I’ve learned. And.. you know.. it’s not easy!

This Sunday, the whole country needs to spring forward from 1939.

Happy International Women's Day! These are bloody tough times, but we are bloody tough too x

Trump administration has identified words to be banned on government websites or at least be wary of using. Among them: women, race, injustice, climate science, pollution, victim, historically. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Let's debunk this whole "space is hard" mantra. Looking at all NASA-led missions launched since 2000, only 4 out of ~60 missions experienced total failures. Two of these were due to issues with the commercial launch vehicle, & two were spacecraft issues. That is a *93% success rate.* (1/n)

Controversial includes covid-19 and peanut allergies? Wtf

"Words do have power. Words are events, they do things, change things." "We can’t restructure our society without restructuring language. One reflects the other." (Ursula K. Le Guin, in 'The Wave in the Mind' and in Jonathan White's 'Talking on the Water.')

Can check ‘organise a protest’ off my bucket list. @standupforscience.bsky.social

2+ weeks of late night organizing meetings, talking to a reporter at kid’s dance class with baby shark blasting in the background and so much discord chatter 5yr old wanted to know why i was always looking at my phone lately. LETS DO THIS SF!

Why do we still have to put up with this shit. Unfortunately most of us could write something like this.

AAI encourages members and friends of #immunology to #StandUpforScience on March 7. Join the rally in Washington, D.C., or participate in the National Day of Action to uphold the integrity of science, protect its accessibility, and ensure its benefits serve all people! standupforscience2025.org

Fridays have been tough for researchers and federal workers, but let’s make this one for the books. Huge thanks to @jpflores.bsky.social for chatting with me about the whirlwind of events leading up to this moment! Let’s rally. @standupforscience.bsky.social www.the-scientist.com/stand-up-for...

Kamala Harris warned us that Trump was going to do all the things that he's now doing. But she wasn't likable enough when she did it.

We simply do not have to sacrifice the rights of trans people to save rights elsewhere and anybody that tells you otherwise is a fascist

They can’t fire science. Tell your story: bit.ly/faces_of_science

The world sucks right now. But my toddler decided to hold her sister’s hand the whole way from school so there’s that.

“We invite you to join together with us to issue a firm rebuke to this new world of alternative facts and negotiable truths.” @standupforscience.bsky.social

You can call his office at (916) 445-2841 and select the option to speak to a representative, then hit 3 to leave a message without actually having to speak to a human being. I highly encourage it.

Will you be standing up for science tomorrow? If there isn’t an official rally near you, join the nationwide campus and workplace walkout at 12:00 PM local time on March 7th. Learn more here: standupforscience2025.org/local-event-... @standupforscience.bsky.social

Baby formula, flu shots, smart phones, gps. All of these are things that were funded by the US government scientific research. They are in our everyday life. These are the type of inventions that are under threat by the current administration’s attack on science. @standupforscience.bsky.social

Everybody (me included) is getting bogged down on the details of events at NIH et al. Fatal mistake. The big picture is Musk/Trump are trying to shut down all gov-funded Medical/Disease research in the US. Have to understand that to have any hope of stopping it. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/act-now

In 1943 the US government made an antifascist film called "Don't Be a Sucker" in which we see a college professor in Germany removed from his classroom by government officials who do not approve of what he's teaching about race. youtu.be/vGAqYNFQdZ4?...

@governor.ca.gov what about California?

Where will you be tomorrow?? @standupforscience.bsky.social

I’ll be in SF Standing Up for Science!

I also was a volunteer with the seroprevalence study and remember the conclusions being made way before we had validated any data. We all need to oppose this and Stand Up For Science tomorrow. @standupforscience.bsky.social

Join us tomorrow in SF to step back from the brink of losing a functional democracy.

What would it take for us to step back from the brink of losing a functional democracy? One step is court orders. Today, a small piece of good news for NIH. Another step is large-scale protest. Today I describe how these two components fit together: samwang.substack.com/p/for-us-sci...

Join me and thousands of faculty, students, and staff across the country at the #StandUpForScience rally tomorrow. Indications are that this demonstration will be large and could make a real difference (see thread below on why). Your career, your health, and your democracy depend on it.

Frustrated that there seemed to be no large-scale pro-science movement coalescing, a graduate student took matters into her own hands

I have a question. Will you Stand Up for Science tomorrow? @standupforscience.bsky.social

Join us tomorrow in SF

University of California system postdocs cost ~25%-30% of what Altman is proposing, and that wage was considered groundbreaking when it was bargained in 2022.
