My personal suspicion is that the majority of these accounts are genuine, but Bluesky is moved to close them down because their requests disrupt the user experience. However, if people are being starved and genocided, it’s appropriate to have your user experience disrupted, so there’s that.

I have donated to quite a few accounts for people in Gaza. I am reading a lot of posts suggesting these are spam from South Asian scammer factories. I tend to microdonate so that my contributions are well spread out. If it turns out that every single donation was a scam at least I was moved to help.
