The company, which operates 80 department stores across Canada, announced on Friday that it had commenced restructuring proceedings after an attempt to refinance its debt fell apart, and “after careful consideration of all reasonably available alternatives”.

The plan involves more store remodels, work to improve data analytics and AI capabilities, and a reshaping of the executive team to eliminate separation between the various retail banners as well as Canadian Tire Bank. That will also mean job cuts.
