You know when kids get to sixth form and are SO ready to leave school and move on from it all? I didn’t realise the feeling would be the same for parents.

So maybe you wanna know the best ways to bump off a king? Lots of historical examples in my book Mortal Monarchs and it’s 99p on kindle. 👑⚰️🗡️💀 shorturl.at/gzKr9

Just checking if we’re allowed to incite violence on this app?

This weekend at Waterstones they’ve got 25% off selected books for pre-order and guess what? Wee, Snot and Slime Through Time is coming soon. Use PREORDER25 at checkout. www.waterstones.com/book/history...

Audiobook recording today. The next instalment of History Stinks! Wee, Snot and Smile Through Time. Coming on 10th April. 🤢🦠🧪

Somebody has nominated me for a rather nice award and I don’t know who or how or why but thank you!

Off to the big city today. I’ve come to love it again since writing about it. Or maybe I love the Aberdeen of 200 years ago, the crumbling tenements and dark alleyways. Byron lived in the one with the turret. It’s not there now.

🔊MY TWENTY-FIRST BOOK THE PERFECT MOTHER IS OUT TODAY! From @boldwoodbooks.bsky.social ! #booksky📚💙

This is VERY good news. Love bookshop.org and all the stuff they do! www.salon.com/2025/01/28/b...

Every movie where the crazed oligarch tries to take over the world ends in their violent death. Falling from a great height, decapitated by helicopter, crushed by machinery, dissolved in a vat of acid. They also have a hero that ensures it.

We worked for months with USAID to build an $85,000,000 project to end TB in two regions of the Philippines. The project is funded by private money, the Philippine government, and matching USAID funds. It could provide a blueprint for eliminating TB worldwide--except it's...not happening.

Amputation knife (c.1800) of William Beatty, surgeon on HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. The curved blade was a popular style in the late 1700s/early 1800s. These were replaced by straighter blades in the mid-1800s to ensure more accurate incisions heritage.rcpsg.ac.uk/items/show/136 #histmed

I spent Candlemas reading a book about medical ethics written in 1803. The gist: Listen chaps, don’t do anything that will make us look bad.

Today, Candlemas, is officially the end of the Christmas/Epiphany period. This was widely accepted in medieval times with calendars highlighting the period, still as a time of celebration. Calendars often featured an image of Janus looking both forward and back.

Spent the last few days at Milverton thanks to @gbralph.com Great characters. Lots of fun. 👏👏

That willow tree has been staring at me all morning.

If #bluesky is an echo chamber, then let it be filled with the weirdest, nerdiest content! The mummified hand of an executed criminal holding a candle made from human fat was once believed to render a person who carried it invisible. It was called the “Hand of Glory.” This one's from Whitby Museum.

And if you're into history (of all types), here's a #starterpack of historians in Britain! I'm a medical historian and my latest book, THE FACEMAKER, is about the pioneering surgeon Sir Harold Gillies who rebuilt soldiers' faces during WW1. Find all sorts on this list! go.bsky.app/Fpw6Tvr

Don’t be taken in by those ideas that come whilst nodding off at night. Last night mine suggested my protagonist receives some handy info in an email. The book is set in the year 1811.

We found the culprit! The lovely @drlindseyfitz.bsky.social has been sharing recommendations. Thank you. 🤩

Welcome, new followers! My husband @tealcartoons.bsky.social & I have a new kids' book coming out called DEAD ENDS - on medical failure & how failure often leads to success. Science literacy is at an all-time low, so we hope this will help build a new generation of science lovers! shorturl.at/PdbNA

Did somebody mention me somewhere because my followers here just doubled overnight??

That smile! Love it. 🥰

I need to speak to an expert in historical law; specifically inheritance/entailment in the Regency. Bluesky; share please, make this happen!! @gregjenner.bsky.social @suzieedge.bsky.social any suggestions?
