There are no rules for writing, but you do have to read. —Carmen Maria Machado, on her advice for writers.

“We would not be where we are today were it not for the systematic dehumanization of Palestinians by the western media and the suppression of pro-Palestinian speech.”

Georgia high school production of "The Crucible" is canceled after parent complaints that it "was demonic and disgusting." @hesherman.bsky.social: "the play about witch hunts, about the persecution of people out of hysteria...had provoked the same moral persecution it portrayed as unjust."

Last year, when my stepdad went to the hospital after a sudden loss of the ability to swallow the hospital did a full court press to DNR and not provide him nutrition. He's doing well now, and lives in an assisted living apartment.

I've slowly been listening to Chain Gang All Stars every time I have a sewing project.

Trump’s action to end international students’ ability to study at Harvard is dangerous and unlawful. This will deter talent from coming to the United States, and is nothing more than a wannabe dictator trying to bully people into silence. My full statement:

Y'all ever consider not gripping power with skeletal hands amidst your death rattle? Like idk having a life and peacefully retiring before death's door?

The DHS press release announcing the Harvard thing is truly batshit

I'm doing it look mom no han

I have revised through my Justification and went back and tightened my Premise. I spent *time* adding a case study to two chapters and reframing my novel methodology more clearly. Next Theoretical Framework which is in good shape, then another rewrite of my chapter outlines making CUTS. #phdsky

“Never Again” is now. Prof. Jacob Sznajder (Northwestern University) shares his family’s story and his personal plea to end the war in Gaza. For his parents, who survived the Holocaust, “Never Again” meant rejecting hatred and dehumanization anywhere. www.youtube.com/shorts/8ripQ...

I mean this is simply expressing empathy. I guess humanity is now outlawed at these institutions.

I've spent the day revising and reading. I'm four paragraphs in and it's taking freaking forever. #amrevising #phdsky

My take on Pence: I'm not the target audience, and I think it's weak sauce. But I mean, given the lack of courage among Republicans, he is making a case for himself as being someone who put their country marginally ahead of themselves. We need republicans and democrats to step the f up.

Finishing up coursework. Really enjoying my digital performance class and discussing the rhetoric of memeing and the alt right. I won't miss it but today was an interesting day.

I have no gaps, more like how is possible you had all these positions? The dates don't make sense... Me: have you heard of being poor? And working full-time and going to school full-time while having a weekend job?

I'm kinda obsessed with Seamus Heaney even though I missed him in person at my Alma. I have like 4-5 of his collections they are so good. The Irish, they get poetry. I love the Irish.

My revision for my publication is done and sent! Wooohooo - over 75+ pages of revision this week between both documents. 5 days and 1 unending headache. Taking a much needed break from the computer.

American theatre artists stepping up again. "Dr. Hayden, the first African American and first woman to serve as head of the institution, was a 'fierce advocate for preserving America’s cultural memory ...'" www.nytimes.com/2025/05/09/t... #theatre #theater #theatresky #theaterBSKY

For the second year in a row, the boycott of @penamerica.bsky.social called for by @wawog.bsky.social has rendered the Jean Stein Prize unawardable, with the $75,000 prize being donated to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund and Palestine Legal instead. ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

“Death is everywhere. It feels inescapable and inevitable.” Head of northern Gaza’s largest soup kitchen calls “the horrors of starvation here… indescribable,” fears targeting by Israeli military for providing the service of a soup kitchen. www.usatoday.com/story/opinio...

BREAKING: Rümeysa, our union sister who was snatched by ICE, is free today. We stood up for our union family and demanded justice! When you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us. #4the1st ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

I’m an immigrant. I came to the United States to study, become a citizen, and contribute because I believe so much in the promise of America. When Trump rips away student visas and terrorizes students, that hurts our entire country.

Many problems w/ firing the librarian of Congress and presumably seeking to install some stooge. But one that's most alarming is the Congressional Research Service. They do a ton of good and important work, a big resource for both members and others. Corrupting and purging CRS would be catastrophic.

This is terror.

So fun! I love the additional reader reviews as well.

Last revision push today before sending to my committee and readers for review. Then I get to actually dive into the research! The path to candidacy is frustrating as someone with an established career. Academia is often patronizing and infantilizing in its systems, especially for minorities.

I carry on their legacy in solidarity. I call it aesthetic writing and intuitive spelling. With some magical punctuation for kicks. *~like this*~ When did academia abandon the right to make up your own grammatical rules! Let a girl have some fun.

The Second City is always first in our hearts. (Well it's a shared first for me, but first East of the Rockies and West of the Atlantic)

Irony is dead, roasted, gone, finito. We've gone back in time and killed its grandpa.

Currently studying digital performance. Started the quarter off with the Zoom Lawyer Cat. Yesterday, a colleague presented about stand-up comedians in Animal Crossing. Now we've progressed to AI avatars making statements in court. Someone write about this! #performancestudies #digitalperformance

My second NEA piece in two days. Its distressing but at the same time, I feel like this attempt to control the arts is a testament to its power. And why it’s more important than ever for audiences to step up and support it playbill.com/article/nati...

Long Live Degenerate Art (1938) Art and Liberty Group in Egypt. In this statement they call out the strangling of free expression in the arts across Europe. History repeats itself in the widespread cancellation of NEA grants due to DEI and ideological adherence. 1pg, worth a read #neagrants

Andry José Hernández Romero, I remember you, even if I do not know how to articulate my horror, rage, & sorrow at your treatment by my government. No one has heard from you in 51 days. As vigil, I’m posting a photo of you every day until you are returned from El Salvador.

55 years ago today, the Ohio National Guard killed four people at Kent State University. Never forget.

I've been watching Andor and these are my take aways 1) Don't forget watching Star Wars isn't a substitute for your actions in the real world. 2) Resistance and revolution are awful. They are just less awful than fascism. Losing your life or livelihood is preferable to losing your soul. #maythe4th

Anyone who is on a shared spreadsheet with me. I love you. There are solidarity spreadsheets and getting the work done spreadsheets but this is the nitty gritty of building a better world.

Kiro has decided that sitting on my laptop is a helpful part of research and writing. #phdsky #frommyarchive
