Rereading Neuromancer and some 80s and 90s tech culture writing is reminding me we used to imagine the internet would be a weird and individualistic culture of DIY hardware and strange people in strange corners battling corporate takeover. Instead we got platforms and everyone wanting an iPhone.

Another John Martin painting. This is Pandæmonium (1841), the capital of hell in John Milton‘s Paradise Lost. “Pandemonium, the palace of Satan, rises, suddenly built out of the deep: the infernal peers there sit in council.” #Painting #JohnMilton #JohnMartin #Art

Das @nymag.com schreibt darüber, wie man schreiben muss: Was Israel in Gaza tut, ist beispiellos & bedeutet das Ende des Völkerrechts. This short Canadian NFB film from Arthur Lipsett is an abstract succession of unrelated views of the passing crowd. A commentary on a machine-dominated society, often cited as an influence on George Lucas's Star Wars and his conceptualization of The Force. www.nfb.ca/film/21-87/ @rpace.bsky.social

This is Mr. Everett True, he is a big angry bloke who solves everything with a fight. But often he does it for good reasons. These cartoons appeared from 1905-1927 and were made by A.D. Condo and J. W. Raper. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Out... A 🧵of some of these century old cartoons:
