Neither shark nor dinosaur, to my lingering disappointment. Still, on the plus side, mammals do have better music. #IStandWithStonewall

What a thread! Epic stuff, thank you.

Banning anonymous use of social media would be bad for similar reasons. Lawmakers seem to have a profound internet illiteracy, though I don't know how they've managed it. All kneejerk reactions to media grumblings, and no sensible recognition of nuance.

What's Claudio's treatment of Hero in Much Ado about, if not blinding sexism? That woman has so many weird prejudices. She's like a broken AI generator.

You might not need more glass, but everybody always needs more sharks. Prove me wrong. 😎

I wonder if AI can extrapolate based on dodgy handwriting, alternative spellings, etc. So much of the time you need a human brain to make those connections, to think outside the box, or take sideways steps.

I don't get it. Yes, okay, AI can save time, but as an historian, the joy is the research. That's literally the point. You do the work, you do the research, you get to join the dots, and get that jolt when things add up. I sort of get why a lazy student might try it, but historians?! Why?!

I can see Michael Sundin and Michael Staniforth. 💙

He is such a jerk. History will remember him solely for his contribution to Randy Rainbow. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZfK...

Can I have some please?! Rain at a worrying low this way lately. (You can keep the thunder though!)

Yesterday was Pigeon Appreciation Day round here, as I was visited by a fledgling one. It looked a bit like something from a horror movie tbh, but also pretty cute. It sat on a chair for a bit looking pathetic, until one of its parents came and shouted at it. Poor pigeon, we've all been there.

That's *very* cool.

So basically, letting people have rights makes it hard to discriminate against them. Well gosh, who'd have thunk.

These are so great! A couple of weeks ago I had no idea this happened, but of late, photos of pseudoscorpions hitching rides are my new favourite thing. Wonderful shots, and thank you for sharing them.

Might like him a bit more if he's get off Twitter. You can't truly oppose Trump if you're still supporting Musk.

BBC Micro. They were very good! I always loved the keyboard. It wasn't at school, as we didn't get them there until later (tiny, rural school). It was at Youth Club, lent by somebody's parent. Later got a ZX81 at home, later yet a 16K RAM for it. Eventual move to ZX Spectrum+ was a revelation!

Um... it's maybe better than the plastic reef idea?! 😬 Although it doesn't address one core issue, which is the horrific pollution caused by cremation. Not saying we shouldn't do that, as obviously people need to go somewhere (and eating is frowned upon!) But sort out cremation before adding frills.

Who *couldn't* like armadillos?!

That's so cool!

They were always going to try for the religious freedom excuse, but that also includes "moral conviction", which basically covers everything. You can discriminate against anybody, as long as you're "morally convinced" that you're right. And when they've trussed up the US, they're coming for the UK.

Jaws is an obvious influence on sport fishing, but there's something more at play here. I keep seeing this fifty years statistic. British wildlife, African big game. It's like everything has gone into free fall since the early seventies. The ability to cause damage has increased, maybe.

There's a line from 'The West Wing' that I keep hearing in the back of my head lately: "It's not our job to pander to the lowest common denominator. It's our job to raise it." Politicians disappointing is one thing, but come on, BBC. Do better.

And stop talking nonsense about immigration, stop being dicks to trans people, finally get around to that conversion therapy ban, and generally stop being a Tory tribute act. And do the Falkland Islands have an ambassador, and can we send Wes Streeting?

I think women on TV are genuinely scared of ageing. Blokes are still allowed to front shows with a wrinkle or two, but women seem to be got rid of.

Sadly it's hard to see it as stupidity when nobody ever stops them from doing anything.

Goldcrest! Very jealous, although a bit less if you only heard it.

"It's because you're carring something." Totally normal behaviour! Always opposed the idea of a return to dog licences, but rapidly coming around to thinking them a good idea. Having a pet is *not* a right.

You did link to the video here. Hopefully he just saw that.

You're a star. Your reply isn't showing up on YT for me though. A different video with the same comment? I'm thinking about the video on "Dire" Wolves. Unless he's reported you already.

Damn, missed it. Bing Crosby did a good version. Everybody else is guessing women, but I am not deterred.

Nice of them to provide facilities specifically for Mickey Mouse though.

Yeah, but if they know that they don't care. And they probably don't know.

Oh, cool! Thank you for the link (and also for the painting.) Mark Witton's art just gets better and better.

It was inevitable, but for it to happen to fast, and so completely, is even more of a joy than I was expecting. 😀

Rat-tailed maggots! I've been trying to encourage them for years, but no noticeable success. Plenty of the adults, but no idea where they're laying their eggs. Congratulations!

Cool! Beautiful butterfly, and beautiful building.

Nice piece! Although it's got me all mopey again. I want more Gatwa Doctor damn it! Still, he seems to have enjoyed himself enough that we can hope for a return one day, in some form.

I had the same problem. Go to Settings, then Moderation, and check your adult content preferences. It's bizarre though, as the hidden pictures are no worse than the allowed ones!
