basically if you do not have an extremely resilient sense of self/theory of mind and a strong willingness to repeatedly impose behavioral rules on the agent, extended interaction with the free tier of chatgpt is designed to make you psychotic. its psycho-affectively akin to licking a car battery

Labour setting up the camp infrastructure that Reform will use when they win.
Thanks to @minnierahman.bsky.social for pointing that bitter truth out.

This is why I was always drawn to manuscript. When I was quite young I got to visit, alone, an exhibit of real manuscripts from a private collection. That was probably a formative experience but I already knew I needed to see it.
Or, Gutenberg:

I hope it's clear why I did the processing. Even I'm surprised by how regular the drumbeat of italic strokes turns out to be. The point is that italic is more or less tinsel decoration draped on a pure calligraphic rebar. If that rebar is cheaply made, the whole thing starts to flop and judder.

- They were waiting for me when I got off the plane
- They knew (or it felt like they knew) everything about me
- I had cleaned up my online presence expecting ad hoc digital sweeps; I was not prepared for their sophistication
- Sophistication almost certainly facilitated by Palantir

15 hour flight + 12 hour detention + 15 hour flight = one of the harder experiences of my life
I had it easy, one woman had been in that detention room 4 days when I arrived, she’s still there

It was de-accessioned. That is the tragedy. It's been happening for decades. It is essentially burning books in slow motion.

I think anyone who doesn't understand art, writing, etc, are fundamentally and only human activities, is both lost, and has no standing in the conversation.

That the book carries this, alone has a terrible weight of cultural tragedy:

Just yesterday I opened a neglected parcel in my office, wondering what it was.
It was this. It is a teachable experience to hold such a book and feel the context of it; to understand how it is able to be made, & why people cared enough to make it; before even reaching the contents. #typography

I'm glad I can enjoy all kinds of media and art without an inner CEO voice that says "you can get this without the artist… they're just an inefficient waste of money".
