Someone told me once that regardless of degree completed, a "Physicist" is just one who studies physics. In that context, I like to think of myself a physicist moreso than any of my other professions or skills. Which are humorous in number at this point.

While I'm steadfast in my belief that in the U.S. we arbitrarily lengthen construction times on reactors to an absurd and obviously politically motivated degree, 1 year feels like a breakneck pace that will absolutely cause problems. 4 years would be more reasonable.

Is Iran a threat? Sure. Were they close to a bomb? Arguably at 60% they already have it, but we'd have definitely noticed if enough raw material were actually moving that way, so I'm fairly certain that no, they're not close.

So to make one Little-Man sized bomb, just under 20% of the global annual supply of uranium ore had to make it to Iran? And that's just to have enough U235 in raw material, to say nothing of being able to actually enrich it if you only had the bare minimum.

Global supply in 2022 fell just short of 50 kilotons. (www.statista.com/topics/1553/...)

That comes out to within a rounding error of 9 kilotons of ore. Accounting for probable losses, you'd be lucky to get it out of 9 kilotons. Yes I know there's some play in these numbers as I've accounted for 100% enrichment, not 90%, but at best that saves maybe a kiloton of the 9 you need.

Theoretically you could make a warhead with 20% enriched... if you had a few hundred kilograms of it.
So let's do some napkin math.
For every metric ton of ore, you get 7.2 kilograms of the fissile isotope. To build Little-Man, you need 64.

Ooooh, that's what Dexter Holland of The Offspring got his Ph.D. in.
I know it's off topic, but the guy who sang "Hit That" did his dissertation on treatments/cure avenues for AIDS.

The only way Iran has a nuclear warhead, is if someone gave it to them. Now if they took the uranium hexafluoride gas, that you put into the centrifuges, and were to disperse it into the environment through some kind of explosion, that'd be pretty dangerous to the folks downwind

As much as I love this, and it should happen, right now any time spent on anything other than impeaching Trump and shutting down the “Big Beautiful Bill” is time wasted, and for you not to understand that, is concerning.

Saw a sign similar to the horchata one in Woodbridge today. Photographing a wedding for some friends today, else the wife and I would be out there with you.

Not too far from where I live. Been trying to photograph some birds from my back porch this week, and I haven't been too successful. But the rocking chair was nice anyway. There was a cardinal on the railing this morning, but it flew off before I got back with the camera.

Without orders, I'm also not sure if they're protected under the civil relief act (though it's not recommended that an employer test that).
Without a status, they're not even authorized to perform a title 32 mission, let alone 10, 50, or 18.

Even if they were given loyalty tests (a problem worthy of its own thread), most of these assemblies are rent-a-crowds, and the verbal responses are usually prompted. Happens all the time in more benign scenarios.

You have the right to self defense. It's not rioting to stop someone from poisoning the water supply, it's self defense.
I am afraid. I am tired. I am not backing down.

Only Congress has the authority to declare war. Declare it against the Trump administration. Trump may be the commander in chief, but the authority to declare war is yours.
I'm acutely aware the idea is utterly absurd, but uh, so are a lot of other things right now.
