I mean doesn’t this phrasing lend itself to the most Gen X of Gen X complaints anyway?

I couldn’t figure out what word to use because “threat” isn’t really right but came the closest - wouldn’t have thought to put it this way but yeah, this is more like it.

I read it as a threat.

I enjoy the “guarded by taxis [citation needed]” entry.

This sounds wonderful. And tarragon with chicken is so good! I keep trying to grow it but can’t seem to keep it happy.

Aren’t they practically the same height this year?

“We started scanning vital records and have entire…dozens now digitized, then birth certificates got moved to another department, so the paper records are stored somewhere between three different divisions & scanning hasn’t restarted in the six years since.”
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tough for compliance to be mindless when it involves wading into a gazillion localities’ uhhh unique & highly individual approach to vital records-keeping.

This article has a video where, at about the 30-second mark, there’s what looks like a whole bunch of people poring over floor plans. I don’t know why that’s hitting me so hard, but it is.

Purely hypothetically, what if the plane he’s on were to suddenly lose altitude?

Tesla! 💕
The improbable Muppet pose is amazing, but the whiskers + Gray Cat’s side eye = MAGNIFICENT.

I was thinking of this one, I guess Philly parking enforcement ticketed the vehicle post-arrest but weren’t the ones who caught them (thought I remembered they got caught bc parking came along & clamped the wheels):

Wasn’t there something about a van of Q people who tried to start something in 2020 but were accidentally defeated by the Philly parking cops? Like I think I remember reading something about that?

I don’t actually know *how* Philly killed the hitchhiking robot, I can only assume it involved D cells somehow…?
comment in response to

Philadelphia once killed a hitchhiking robot just to watch it die:
“In 2015 [hitchBot’s] attempt to hitchhike across the United States ended when it was stripped, dismembered, and decapitated in Philadelphia.”

Also, as someone who (for work) is currently mid-Rx claims 101, crash course version…
Medical & Rx billing are totally, absolutely, 5000% bonkers.
BUT they are bonkers in their own, often very different, uhhh special ways.
e.g., your health insurer probs does not handle your Rx benefits directly!

“I was a nicer person before 2016, I think.” There’s like a whole separate essay in that sentence, imo. I could write one too. I think a lot of people could.
Before 2016, I was talking with all three of my brothers. Now I’m on speaking terms with only two…

I’ve never seen this photo before. Really struck by how much it looks like a still from a zombie movie.

This is a GREAT example!!! These are FANTASTIC heels, & at the same time they draw a continuous line from the pants to the heels - they don’t break it up.
comment in response to
post
Yeah, you’re trying to create one long unbroken visual line - that’s why you want the heels & pants the same color or close to it. Doesn’t matter that people know you’re wearing heels, it’s the optical illusion you’re after.

What I mean is, it’s not just that Harris seems to always wear pants, it’s also that her pants are tailored to always be worn with 3-inch heels.
Anyway! Genuinely fascinated by Harris’s style choices - if “fashion is instant language” then she’s fluent, & I would love to read a deep dive about it.
comment in response to

Like if you look at the Matrix-y photo, her pants are tailored for heels. They hit her exactly right as long as she wears heels; she can’t wear flats or even shorter heels without stepping on them.
Tailors will always ask women re: heels or flats w/ pants bc it changes where the hem falls.
comment in response to
post
I don’t think this is all of it, but Harris & I are about the same height (she’s a little taller), & she probably got the same advice I did: wear the tallest heel you can walk in w/ same (or v similar) color pants.

Maybe related: even though I know August is a summer month (in this hemisphere anyway), there’s some part of my brain that is CONVINCED it’s secretly October in disguise.
Like if you ask me to picture an August day, I’m definitely thinking leaves turning, sweater weather.

Okay but tbh I think you’re right? It’s how he’s holding his hands - like he legit expects to have a knife in one and a fork in the other and isn’t sure what to do without them.

This is completely repulsive to me. I worked as a CNA > 10 yrs, mostly ICU, always public hospitals. Being a healthcare worker means it doesn’t matter who your patients are or what you think of them. That’s not your job; your job is to care for them. They are your responsibility. Full stop.
