Thinking about modern AI takes me back to a story written in '46 called "A Logic Named Joe" by Murray Leinster. It's a short read that calls out some of the impacts a runaway AI could have. The writing style will remind you that it was written 80 years ago. www.baen.com/chapters/W20...

The latest from The Accidentals is comfortably easy for me to relate to. Wishing them luck getting a spot behind the Tiny Desk. youtu.be/o-49KkhCPxs?...

Got out for my first ever round of winter disc golf. Was a great time.

Kind of curious if anyone can name the movie after seeing just this frame.

I'm curious, exactly how many movies are in your top ten list? Do you have three favourites and then fill in the rest? Do you hit ten and keep going? Or are you tied to the rules and have exactly ten?

Am excited to see Kowloon Generic Romance being developed into an anime series. I find the setting fascinating and the manga it's based on has been earning great reviews. Now to wait for a translation. youtu.be/esI4MA67gd8?...

Silver lining moment: US aggression has been doing a better job of unifying Canada than any political party has been able to accomplish. Buy Canadian. Bye American.

News out of the US gets even more insane. As much as I trust Inside Medicine, and the idea that this lines up with other news I've seen, I'd like to validate this claim rather than throw gas on to the fire the US has become. insidemedicine.substack.com/p/breaking-n...

If you should happen to get tickets to a show at the Meridian Arts Center, don't go to Meridian Hall. They're both on Yonge St but 45 minutes apart. Chances are good that you'll miss your show.

Reading the news these days is scarier than any fiction I've ever read.

Does our society ever forgive? It seems to me that forgiveness and redemption were things we would talk about in the past. These days, not so much.

I love the designs on this Frank Lloyd Wright inspired deck of cards from Art of Play. Specifically, this deck celebrates the beautiful, but short lived Midway Gardens near the shore of Lake Michigan in Chicago. www.artofplay.com/products/mid...

Waking up to this view of Niagara Falls was a treat this past weekend.

While we’re banning books… Finland is teaching children in school how to recognize fake news and propaganda as part of critical thinking and civic responsibility. Some of this will seem very familiar. Be. Like. Finland.

Happy New Year everyone

Got a Resonator light to help me when playing disc golf at night.

This is mostly for me to keep track of but I figured other people might be interested in seeing what clothing is manufactured here in Canada. I've been a fan of Naked & Famous denim from Montreal for a few years now and consider the extra expense to be worth it. www.reddit.com/r/askTO/comm...

@cosmosheldrake.bsky.social fell to second on my list this year. Too bad Spotify doesn't include time I spin records.

Turning off the heater in my new hybrid results in crazy fuel economy. This was after doing about 20km of in town driving (it's about 70mpg). The same drives in similar weather with the heat turned on have been getting about 6.2 l/100km (38mpg).

First time painting a mini of a real person. Particularly happy that I managed a half decent job on the eyes.

Annual music mix is finished. Feels weird not making a physical copy for the first time in over a quarter century. Available on both YouTube and Spotify. youtube.com/playlist?lis... open.spotify.com/playlist/26u...

There are areas that I love seeing LLM being used. Copying the styles and content of creative people is not one of those areas.

Can never have too many kitty photos.

Getting a feel for my new coffee mug. It's awesome for keeping my hands warm on a cold morning.
