4. Importantly, for many countries in shortfall, DLS can be achieved by reducing inequality and distributing consumption more fairly (and, of course, focusing production on DLS goods). For example, South Africa and Brazil:

It is important to note that countries in energy/material surplus may still have large DLS deficits, because under capitalism production is organized around what is most profitable to capital rather than around provisioning the DLS goods that people need.

3. Meanwhile, most of the growth in energy and material use is happening in places that are already in surplus, thus causing needless damage to climate and ecology.

2. And yet, billions of people are denied access to DLS.
We find that 50% of nations do not have access to enough energy to ensure DLS, given existing national distributions. And for 20 of these countries, their consumption is actually *declining*. This is an extremely bad situation.

Here's the paper: thelancet.com/journals/lan...
And some key findings:
1. Globally, we use *a lot* of energy and materials. In fact, we use at least 2.5x more than would be needed to ensure decent living standards (DLS) for all.

Again, not saying this to criticise the OP per se; I find myself speaking in 'economics' a lot too, it is the only way arguments are actually valued in late-stage capitalism. This is also why we often end up having to come up with economics arguments say against climate change or for diversity...

Oh my god! Not only does this sound very very similar to what OpenAI promised, Bizjournals reports that *OpenAI once tried to acquire them*. Very nasty stuff from Mr. Altman and Mr. Ive!

I am not even sure führerprinzip fully explains this? Like, many countries have similar autocracy but they don't do this? Like Erdoğanists don't go "we're bombing Syria due to gut feeling"... a theater of legitimacy is still required.

No amount of international relations or statecraft lit or military history or even Schmitt vs Benjamin political theory prepared me for "forget the intelligence, we go by instict when deciding to wage war" being a stance boldly declared on tv

As someone from Gaza, let me tell you straight up we don’t need anyone making up fake characters just to justify killing us. No Palestinian I don’t care if they’re gay, disabled, religious, whatever would ever support wiping out their own people. That’s not “complex,” that’s just bullshit.
