K-League Round 3 Review -Jasir Asani's brace downs Anyang -Ulsan edges Jeonbuk 1-0 in an early test of historical K1 giants -THREE 0-0 draws & only FIVE total goals scored across six matches -More public criticism of pitch quality voiced throughout the league

πŸ€ Yang Hyun-jun is on fire. After his brace & assist vs St. Mirren, he now has three goals & two assists in his last three Premiership appearances (only 127 minutes). In his last six appearances in all competitions (226 minutes), he has four goals & five assists.

I’m trying to watch the Ulsan-Jeonbuk match, but my phone keeps blowing up with these red card notifications from Incheon-Suwon Samsung. Three reds at the half is insane work.

βœοΈπŸ’ SCOUTING THREAD Here are some of my takeaways & observations of the South Korean national team from the 2025 U20 Asian Cup. πŸ“·: KFA Start with #1 below ⬇️

ICYMI U20 wrap up: Good: Shin Min-ha, wingers, Kim Tae-won's finishing, Seong Shin/Son Seung-min in midfield, the 9s' physicality, Hong Sung-min's shot-stopping Areas of improvement: Kang Ju-hyeok's over-reliance on pace, the CAM's lack of presence, GK decision making, FB play

Saudi Arabia was well drilled defensively & South Korea seemed too predictable in attack. Not enough central movement or presence to draw out the CBs. One bright spot was Shin Min-ha who was immense today & was arguably the most consistent πŸ‡°πŸ‡· player this tournament.

Player Profile #3: '07 ZaΓ―d Bafdili, disruptive playmaker of Jong Genk ⚑ A versatile Belgian-Moroccan πŸ‡§πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡²πŸ‡¦ midfielder from the highly regarded Genk youth academy. One to watch alongside Konstantinos Karetsas, who is already turning heads in Europe.

Just rewatched FC Bayern-Frankfurt. Kim Min-jae playing through pain on a damaged Achilles should not be understated. He's a warrior. Not sure if he should be called up for World Cup qualifying in March in all honesty, but I doubt Hong Myung-bo passes on him.

It would be easy to be critical after a poor finish in regulation, but the kids showed resilience against a tough opponent. Hong Sung-min looked nervy early, but made some big saves. After going down 1-0, Shin Min-ha responded with a brace. πŸ‡°πŸ‡· is headed to the U20 World Cup

South Korea-Uzbekistan has been wild. -Missed handball in the box -Penalty conceded and saved by Hong Sung-min -Brace by a CB in Shin Min-ha -Two goals after 90' by a great Uzbek comeback -Now heading into penalties #AFCU20

Lee Jae-sung went to Europe just before he turned 26. He's a testament to the fact that Asian players can have successful careers in Europe after 25. After his goal & assist yesterday, he now has seven straight seasons of at least 7 G/A. Underrated level of production.

Bruno Lamas & Cesinha are a combined 65 years old. They also have combined for five goal contributions through the first two weeks of K-League play. Don't mean to be clichΓ©, but they really are aging like fine wine.

K League 1 is finally added to my match report app! Games will be a little delayed, so instead of being added within a day of them ending, it'll be a few days upwards to a week πŸ‘‰ football-match-reports.streamlit.app #KLeague

Heading into the QFs vs Uzbekistan in a few days, South Korea's U20s need to sort out its defending. Shin Min-ha's return to the starting XI should help, but you cannot expect to win many games with that level of FB play. Uzbek #10 Urinboev is one to watch (3G 1A).

U20 Asian Cup: South Korea 1-1 Japan This was a cagey match & result that neither side will be happy with. πŸ‡°πŸ‡· lacked cohesive progression into the final third & looked short of chemistry with several changes in the lineup πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ should be disappointed to concede the late goal

A timid first half for South Korea's U20s, lucky not to be down by at least 2 goals. Thought Ha Jung-woo and Son Seung-min have been solid, but the rest have been mediocre at best. Some poor defensive awareness from the fullbacks, especially Lee Geon-hee on the right. #AFCU20

Park Seung-soo was my MOTM. Thailand struggled to deal with his directness & efficient work in small spaces. Nice versatility with his runs in behind as well. Needs time to develop but is a super talented kid, especially at 17. #AFCU20

Decent week for πŸ‡°πŸ‡· players in Europe. Seol Young-woo with three goals in his last two matches Clean sheets for Lee Han-beom & Kim Min-jae Bae Jun-ho's first goal Glad to see Lee Han-beom finally get a run out for FC Midtjylland (his first league start since last September).

Another season, another U22 subbed off 16 minutes into the Ulsan-Anyang match. Tired of pretending that this is good for player development. Not a good look for the K-League.

Can't believe that the K-League is already back. Looking forward to all of the matches tomorrow, especially Ulsan-Anyang. Should be fun to watch the 2024 K1 & K2 champions square off. Added intrigue with Ulsan's generational shift + Jo Hyeon-woo's injury. 🍿

U20 Asian Cup Match Report for South Korea South Korea vs. Syria πŸ‡°πŸ‡· U20 2-1 πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡Ύ U20 The KNT's strong first half was just enough to hold on for the win after a disjointed second half. #AFCU20

Seol Young-woo has been quietly having a steady season. He's arguably one of the most reliable & in-form South Korean players atm. Can play either side at fullback, good in possession, consistent. Crvena zvezda are currently undefeated in the Serbian Superliga at 21-1-0 πŸ”₯

Good to see some goals this past week from πŸ‡°πŸ‡· players in Europe. 1️⃣ Kim Min-su is now up to 9 goals in 15 league matches for Girona B after his brace. 2️⃣ Oh Hyeon-gyu's winning goal was his 8th goal for Genk. 3️⃣ Seol Young-woo scores his 3rd league goal in a 6-0 win.

Player Profile #2: Shin Min-ha, Gangwon's Service-Denying CB 🚫 Another article, another U20 prospect out of South Korea. We continue my new biweekly format with a promising CB who excels at making life difficult for 9s with their back to goal. Check it out below ⬇️

Article coming tomorrow. Originally it was on a European player as I planned to be alternating between South Korean & European players. But w/ the U20 Asian Cup coming up, I couldn't pass this up. Hint on player #2: πŸ‡°πŸ‡· U20 defender with Hong Jeong-ho's floor + potential for more

Brainstormed what a πŸ‡°πŸ‡· starting XI could look like at the U20 Asian Cup next week. Yun Do-young & Park Seung-soo's directness could mesh well with Ha Jung-woo's physicality up top, while Jin Tae-ho's ball striking could be useful to follow up on any potential knockdowns.

I've been busy, so hopefully I'll have time to post more soon. Lately, I've gotten to watch some of the most talented U15-U19s on the planet. It's always exciting when you spot an interesting player for the first time. It gets you hooked, I think all scouts can attest for that.

The AFC U20 Asian Cup will kick off on February 12th with the U20 World Cup looming in late September. Looking forward to watching some great Asian prospects on a big stage. Circle February 20th on your calendars: Japan and South Korea will play in Group D.

His potential is tantalizing. For me, he's easily one of the top three South Korean wingers born in the loaded 2006 class, and he's the youngest of the three. Aggressive & flairful with an explosive first step.

One of my biggest pet peeves when an Asian footballer makes a move to a European club are comments like "Brand signing, bought for the shirt sales!" As if scouting departments don't do their due diligence in identifying & scouting the player. Weird energy.

AIK's Ioannis Pittas is now being linked to Ulsan πŸ‘€ They have now been connected with three players I made individual reports on this window alone, the others being Seo Myeong-kwan & Park Min-seo. If someone at Ulsan is reading my reports, please feel free to connect πŸ˜‚ Made this last June ⬇️
