That brings this tournament to a close for the South Korean U20s, whose next big tournament will be the U20 World Cup in September. Thanks for reading if you got this far.

'06 W Kang Ju-hyeok had some good moments, but sometimes relies on his pace too much. Needs to add more variation to his dribbling & improve his defending. '06 AM Jin Tae-ho looks tidy on the ball, but also seemed timid in physical duels due to his lack of physicality.

6️⃣ Overall it was a good learning experience, especially for the younger players. '06 GK Hong Sung-min looked jumpy at times, but he also made some quality saves. '07 LW Park Seung-soo can improve his passing touch in the final third, but looked dangerous & direct.

An example of what #8 Seong Shin & #7 Son Seung-min faced vs Saudi Arabia: A very compact defense with not much vertical space. Wingers often contending with double teams due to not enough overlap or central penetration.

5️⃣ Lack of midfield involvement by the CAM in the 4-2-3-1. Whether it was Jin Tae-ho or Kim Tae-won, both tended to hang around the box in the 4-2-4 IP shape. This was especially evident against Saudi Arabia's mid-block, leading to the midfield looking isolated & outnumbered.

4️⃣ Kim Tae-won ('05 CF) has a knack for getting into good positions. He struggled to consistently get involved in the games, but he seems to have good instincts & box positioning. He finished with four goals & an assist this tournament.

3️⃣ Fullback play was inconsistent. Apart from Bae Hyun-seo's solid performance against Saudi Arabia, there weren't many standout games from a Korean FB. Kim Seo-jin & Lee Geon-hee had some poor defensive games. Off ball work in terms of awareness especially needs to improve.

If you're a Brighton fan, try not to listen to the outside noise and manage your expectations. The kid needs to develop at his own pace. Physically he has a ways to go.

2️⃣ Brighton-bound Yun Do-young ('06 RW) is talented, but is still a work in progress. His attacking impetus at RW was influential, but he was often double teamed & seemed to force his dribbling at times. While he didn't shy away from physical duels, he still looks a bit frail.

1️⃣ Baek Min-gyu ('05 W/SS) was very good. His technical ability & length aside, he worked hard OOP. He won several headers to create second ball opportunities & his defense surprised me (in a good way). He looks ready for an expanded first team role for Incheon this season.

Will get into more detail with a thread later.

Some poor penalties as well, seems like fatigue played a bit of a role. Hong Sung-min redeemed himself after a rough start.

While Kim Min-soo could've done better to punch the ball away, there were already issues before the initial cross. +Underlapping run by Japan causing confusion between the RW & RB +RCB & LCB not communicating +LB caught in no man's land

On the Syrian side, two players seemed to stand out the most. Al-Ahli SC's Anas Dahhan (#7) caused a few uncomfortable moments w/ his quick feet. Aland Abdi (#8) of Roda JC U21s threatened with his long shot, hitting the post in the 1st half & scoring in the 2nd.

While Seong Shin will get much of the praise for his goal & assist, I thought Ha Jung-woo was impactful with his physicality & hold up play. He's one to watch at Seongnam in K2 this season. There weren't many standout performances, but a lot of decent ones overall.
