Yesterday afternoon, I flew a kite high on the dunes beside the bay. For moments, at a time, it was deliriously good.

Rewatched Dunkirk for the first time since seeing it on the big screen in '17. A phenomenal achievement. Bresson's A Man Escaped magnified. Arguably, the best and most stirring film of the last-quarter century. And this actor, as Tommy, was a casting coup. Humanity in those eyes.

Sometimes I forget how formative a presence in book and film, and writing, The World According to Garp was for me.

Right now, there's a solid 40 million citizens in the republic's electorate who would cast their votes for Don Jr. in 2028 without a second thought.

“Teresa, I had a dream last night about you and me. I gotta tell you this … we're just about to make love and I come. The only thing is, I come blood. And blood went all over the place! Squirtin' all over the place, all over you, all over me, my hands, and everything.”

What is a rebel?

"I'm glad he met you first." Maybe the most meaningful line in all of Spielberg.

When a certain set of ideas, & their articulation, gains an individual significant adulation, money, & influence, I imagine that individual being hesitant to challenge that set of ideas in a way that may shift, change or evolve them. Yet, not only is this an intellectual failure, but a moral one.

Trump, his Cabinet, and many MAGA hats — I have friends or rather former friends, and even family members, and colleagues, whom I would say don't exhibit these traits as individuals, but who have increasingly shown the willingness to excuse them. Which I consider just as dangerous & destructive.

You guys can have Jordan Peterson and Joe Rogan, I'll keep Joseph Campbell and Bill Moyers.

Trump’s not a Nazi, Dude. I mean, say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, at least it's an ethos.

All these men-need-to-be-men influencers and podcasters making their fame and fortunes from typing on keyboards, sitting on their asses in air-conditioned studios, and filming videos of themselves with their personal trainers. You know, real ancient warrior shit.
