We've just published the 19th and final chapter of the 2024 Web Almanac on JavaScript by Abdul Haddi Amjad and Nishu Goel. almanac.httparchive.org/en/2024/java...

My Joy? Divided.

We're doing a blog post series on robots.txt - that "mysterious" (to most!) file on almost all websites. I love how this little text file, which is often even human-readable, helps to keep crawlers focused on the best parts of the web. developers.google.com/search/blog/...

LCP and INP are in Interop 2025!!!! web.dev/blog/interop...

An excellent write up of how Google search is using speculation preload in the search results: developer.chrome.com/blog/search-... (which is why I added the ability to validate the IPs of the fetched this does the other day, had seen quite the uptick, and I'm sure others had too!)

Ding Ding, round (trip time) two of the CrUX API bounty just bestowed upon us. Round trip time (RTT) now has buckets, instead of good, needs improvement & poor, it's low, medium & high, with low being 75ms or less, medium over 75s up-to 275ms and high being RTT over 250ms.

Yay! new CrUX API goodness! LCP Type and Image Subparts are now available!, so I've added them to my free CWV History Tool here: tamethebots.com/tools/cwv-hi...

Off to see Cyndi Lauper. Hopefully co-op live's ceiling has stopped dropping air conditioning hardware by now.

The fact Manchester had (has?) the official role of "Night Time Economy Adviser", and that it was fulfilled by some bloke what puts on festivals, and not a Vampire seems like a disappointing opportunity missed.

Good post from @macarthur.me on the various ways to break up long tasks. macarthur.me/posts/long-t... I especially like nice summary at the bottom:

The new(ish) PCI dss 4 requirements are, in my opinion, going to increasingly push small to medium businesses onto SAAS solutions like Shopify and away from self host things like Magento and WooCommerce. Specifically the requirements to do asv scans every 90 days.
