I'm posing this question in the most practical way possible...
Is someone at LRR becoming Daredevil? Over the past few months, I have consistently had to turn my default system volume up to hear LRR streams (and turn everything else down).
My volume is up 20 points over what it was 3 months ago.

If you're not completely against MTG, look into the 'Pauper' and 'Penny Farthing' formats. They have active communities, and you can build a fun deck for $10. Plus, the formats still change with each release, because new cards come out which are eligible for them.

As long as that union has a need to exist, eBay should work with them.
I don't disagree with anything you said.
I also think, stepping back, this specific Local was not operating in the best of good faith (not that eBay was either). This was a situation where two less-than-pure actors were at war.

I'm pro-union/pro-workers rights. No corporation is your friend.
Having said that, there are unions which are run by the kind of greed-driven people who wouldn't be out of place at a CPAC convention.
eBay should operate such that it's workers don't need a union. It doesn't so a union is necessary.

Yes, Vince, everyone needs to cite double-vetted sources for the things they say, except you.
I forgot Rule #1.
FFS, if I'd have noticed the post I responded to was under your account, I wouldn't have bothered. This is going to be the third or fourth platform that one of us has blocked the other.

My source is "When's the last time you saw an advertisement for TCGPlayer Direct?"
They have been in the process of abandoning it for years.
comment in response to

They're consolidating to a location they were already operating. They had two locations which were being under-utilized, where one would do. That's just simple business.
comment in response to

That facility has been losing money for years. There was never going to be a good time to close it. Do you think every business location should be forced to stay open until its parent company has lost its last cent?
comment in response to
post
So, the only way you'll be happy is if they keep a facility open which has a long history of losing money?

Dave Portnoy has a platform to spread his nonsense. You don't need to give him another one. He's not newsworthy. Nothing he's doing is directly affecting anything. He's just a source for moronic bile.

"You're not allowed to come back until we find reason to deport you again," has to be the most Trumpy (and Anti-American) act yet in this whole unnecessary drama.

Kind of. CT actually offers a service called "CardTrader Zero One-Day Ready" which is a bit more of a direct comparison. It's significantly more expensive for buyers (and sellers), so it's not used as frequently (much like TCGPlayer Direct).
comment in response to
post
It's also worth noting that their staff inspect every card you order through their CardTrader Zero program. If there are any issues with condition or the wrong card being sent, they deal with all of the follow-up and automatically reorder the correct card for you. It's pretty great.

EXACTLY! 🤣

If you're referring to the current "situation", the TCGPlayer Direct center in Syracuse was losing money long before eBay ever took over. It was doomed. They could either close it now, or wait until after the union was recognized and *TRY* to close it.
They handled it poorly, for sure.
comment in response to

Both have their pros and cons. I've sold on both. CardTrader just works better for me. For buyers, if you're the kind of person who only orders a few cards and wants them right away, ManaPool is better. If you tend to order larger quantities and can be patient, CardTrader will be cheaper.

"I didn't know what I was doing at the time, and I sure as fuck don't know what I'm doing now. Have you seen my resume? I'm clearly not built for this shit. What do you expect from me?"
comment in response to

There are a few true marketplaces other than TCGPlayer and eBay.
ManaPool is US- and Canada-only.
Cardmarket MTG-only, and *VERY* EU-focused.
CardTrader is EU-based, but it's marketplace operates worldwide. [This is my personal favorite, and where I primarily list other than eBay. bit.ly/40Vtc0Z ]
comment in response to

Yeah, I'm not suggesting eBay handled this well *AT ALL*. But there were going to be pissed off people, regardless. Everyone looks at how much they spend on TCGPlayer and assumes that there is unlimited money. But a dedicated warehouse with 200+ employees for a under-utilized service is pointless.
comment in response to
post
As for the question on your pricing, any stand-alone retailer -- Card Kingdom, CoolStuffInc, Star City Games, etc. -- is not going to reflect marketplace pricing. Fill up a random cart at TCGPlayer, then copy and paste it to any of the other sites. Their prices are higher because of "convenience".
comment in response to

It's a bandwagon that miserable people were attracted to like moths to a light.
TCGPlayer Direct was bleeding money. eBay recognized that if they didn't close it before the union was recognized, it would be nearly impossible to do so afterward.
They handled it poorly, but not boycott poorly.
comment in response to
post
TCGPlayer was a cesspool of the shallowest kind before eBay ever even looked in their direction. These rose-tinted glasses that everyone seems to have for TCGPlayer are completely detached from the reality of the past.
