The financial version of this is if you have a big position in an asset that's falling in price, and you try to force the price up by yourself by continuing to buy in larger and larger numbers.
It's very difficult to pull this off and when it goes wrong it completely ruins you.

One of the most important, underemphasized roles of the US during and after WW2 was as a refuge for artists and artistic movements that were otherwise left homeless. There’s a reason for instance that Stravinsky and Schoenberg became neighbors in Los Angeles, as an example.
