We launch our new research report today - 'State of Caring in Scotland 2024: Paid work and access to employment for unpaid carers'. This is the first report based on the 2024 State of Caring survey. Read it in full here: www.carersuk.org/media/a3rg42...

Fiona Collie from the Carers Scotland team was interviewed today on Good Morning Scotland and spoke about how a minimum income guarantee could improve the lives of carers. Catch up with the piece here (segment starts at 11:24): www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Despite saving the state £15.9 billion each year, caring often causes reduced earnings, poverty, ill health and a loss of social connections. A Minimum Income Guarantee could transform the lives of carers and this report, which I'm proud to have been part of, sets out the first steps for change.

So excited! Just put a deposit on a new to us caravan which will be delivered next week. A time for new adventures touring Scotland and beyond with @kjrscotland.bsky.social Hamish and, later this Spring, hopefully a new pup 🐶

I don't know exactly what Musk is doing related to Pride on X, but the subsequent amplification of his actions and pushing hate-filled comments about LGBT people on FB is worrying. Both platforms of men with more money than they could ever spend, who could do good but instead choose to create harm.

I'm excited planning to go to Yorkshire to buy a (new to us) #caravan next weekend. Assuming they look as good as they seem on website, we'll be able to enjoy weekends touring Scotland with Hamish🐾 My sorely missed Mum left a wee bit, so I've decided this is the way to invest it. Hope she approves ✝️

The National Care Organisations in Scotland have published a Position Statement on the increase in Employer National Insurance Contributions. Read the statement in full here: https://buff.ly/40A4v8G

A red weather warning is in place in Falkirk on Friday 24/1. All non-essential Council services suspended. Emergency Social Work and emergency housing and emergency road repairs/issues will continue to be available and the link below contains all the details 👇 www.falkirk.gov.uk/news/article...

We have a new factsheet about Carers Support Payment, the new financial benefit which has replaced Carer's Allowance in Scotland. Find out more and download the factsheet here: https://buff.ly/41zj8eK

To mark Carers UK's 60th Anniversary in Scotland, we are using our platform to share the stories of carers across the nation. In this piece, Lesley talks about her work to master mindfulness, and how this benefits her role caring for her Mum. https://buff.ly/4j1ZwGn

Sick to death of sitting down to watch a programme to find the background music is so loud I can't hear the dialogue. Documentaries are the worst.

Feeling quite excited about starting assistance dog training with Hamish on Thursday. He's so smart that I think he'll be helping with practical things in no time.

Today would have been Mum's birthday - she'd have been 80. Happy heavenly birthday Mum x This is a picture of Mum when she and I went to Fuerteventura. She loved it... especially the wild chipmunks and the two for one cocktails! [I may have been at bad influence in respect to the 🍸 🍹]

Today, we scattered my Mum's ashes on the Campsies. Miss her today and every day. Feel like this was the place for her... the hills she saw every day and loved so much. ❤️

May your 2025 be full of love, light, and unforgettable moments.

It is my 1st Christmas without my Mum. I'm grateful for those I love still here, but grief at this time is difficult. But I know I'm not alone, so I'm sending out love to everyone else facing the same, whether it be a parent or grandparent, child, sibling, relative, friend or pet. Hugs to you all ❤️

As some pontificate about the WASPI women & the loss of the WFP as being fair, equating being older with "boomers" who have had the best of everything, the reality for too many older people is very different. We need better conversations on inequalities at all ages & how we better address these.

Come and join the committed and passionate team at Carers Scotland.

I feel like the train gods are against me. First no catering on train, then it's running late, now there's a broken down train at Carlisle. I might explode!!

Powerful event in UK Parliament at Carers UK and Carer Poverty Commission on financial challenges that #unpaidcarers face. Good steps on Carers Allowance earnings threshold but recognition that much more is needed. Glad to attend and speak to Scottish MPs with carer, Lindsay about change needed

Looking forward to today's event in Parliament in London to raise awareness of the financial challenges unpaid carers are facing. We're meeting other members of the Carer Poverty Coalition to meet MPs and highlight the urgent need for greater support for #unpaidcarers.

"from the epidemic in loneliness to the crumbling of communities, the erosion of social capital goes a long way to explaining some of our greatest scourges....If the UK could achieve Scandinavian levels of trust, this could add £100bn per year to our growth" on.ft.com/3OHuDJx via @FT

Not really sure about this. Ofc nimbyism exists but often objections are about things like lack of transport, traffic and safety, school and healthcare infrastructure. Would zones for example, require set % developer contribution towards all services and infrastructure?

When will world leaders call what is happening to the women the West abandoned in Afghanistan what it is - torture & crimes against humanity? This just the latest with women not just losing access to training but to the healthcare their fellow women provide. World is almost silent on their suffering

Interesting discussions at @scottishlabour.bsky.social Civil Society Summit hosted by @pfokane.bsky.social with MSPs & colleagues across sector. What's crystal clear is the sector is critical to the wellbeing of people & communities and vital to the health, social & economic prosperity of #Scotland

🕯️ Tonight, we remember all the women and children who have died because of domestic abuse. We must all work together to help eradicate it from society. Men especially must lend their voices and call out abusive behaviours wherever they see them. #ForThemAll
