We are destroying the next generation of scientists.

Gift link. The actual story of the shackled people being deported without even being told where they were being taken — maybe to countries where they’d face torture or death — while their terrified children cried.😢 The White House posted that pic with “ASMR” tag. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/w...

Imagine being rich enough to do anything you want and choosing to take food and medicine from starving children to give yourself even more money.

This is fantastic.

A wonderful organization, it gives me hope

I hate everything. Just want to find one little morsel of joy to cheer up.

Banning and punishing diversity and inclusion. Stripping women and people of color of their rights and erasing them from history. Reveling in Nazism and the confederacy. Flaunting and celebrating corruption. Don’t call this a course correction. It’s retribution.

Mercy

More than three weeks since the US government temporarily froze PEPFAR funding, there is still widespread confusion and uncertainty as to whether this critical lifeline for millions of people has been cut off. www.doctorswithoutborders.org/latest/uncer...

Raising teenagers is stressful enough. Add in not being sure what the future hold for them in this country makes it even harder.

Don’t just say DEI as if it’s a bad word. Spell it out. Say diversity, which is the lifeblood of American society & culture & innovation. Say equity, which a just society should pursue. Say inclusion, because decent people believe in increasing belonging, not isolating people who are different.

Sad to rethink your dreams for your kids based on the status of our country. I have high hopes they will make a difference in the world but I’m not sure it can be done in the US.

Federally funded community health centers in at least 10 states are experiencing delays accessing their funds, forcing some to shut down and others to contemplate closures, several officials tell PBS News.

This is what revisionist history looks like, in real time. And this also is why it might appear that archaeologists and historians have to dig deep to discover the existence of powerful women and marginalized groups -- because their legacies are so often erased.

Do you see that this is a test? If he can get away with creating fear and stripping away rights of trans people, he will move to another group next. Stand up for trans rights!

If not supporting international aid is really what most Americans want, then I truly do not belong in this country.

I can’t believe we are turning our back on science! Do people really support this? Please republicans stand up for them. This is literally our lives.

Cutting off all foreign aid and development assistance—which is less than 1% of US spending overall—won't save American taxpayers anything. It will cause millions to starve, and spur mass migration and terrorism as a result. (gift link) www.nytimes.com/2025/02/01/u...

President Donald Trump has targeted transgender and nonbinary people with a series of executive orders since he returned to office. Here are things to know about Trump’s actions.

Here are the options on the table (which are not mutually exclusive): 1. House Dems bring articles of impeachment* 2. Senate Dems play constitutional hardball and obstruct everything 3. State AGs litigate (and prosecute) everything they can 4. Citizens march en mass

California DOE fires back against Trump's executive order: "It does nothing" "It is against federal law for the White House to dictate what educators can and cannot teach" Will not comply.

Look, Trump is trying to oversaturate us with nonstop chaos so we can’t react meaningfully to any one thing. But Friday's global stop work order on almost all U.S. aid is dumb and murderous. You need to know about it. 1/ A short🧵on this evil.

FBI agents are stunned by the scale of Donald Trump’s expected purge of the bureau, which could include hundreds of agents and officials, @shaneharris.bsky.social reports.

Am I crazy or does this guy not even work for the government?

This comments section is the first time I've felt even a shred of hope in eight days.

It’s difficult to keep trying to be decent, honest and hardworking when the cheaters keep winning

As a result of the new administration's actions, health centers funded by PEPFAR, the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, are closing their doors and no longer dispersing medication.

A LOT (a LOT) of dictators in the past grabbed power with something claiming to be "temporary."

You know that the scientists who work at the NIH are the ones that were smarter and worked harder than you, dedicated their careers to finding cures and treatments that are helping protect you and your loved ones, and by cutting off their funding and studies, you are only hurting yourselves.

I think we're checking almost every one of these in the US right now. (Reposting with alt text.)
