Just finished this fantastic read from @joeposnanski.bsky.social. Not only is it a book that I firmly believe every single baseball fan should read, but I’d go a step further and argue that it should sit on every fan’s coffee table so that they can pick it up and relive it every so often.

Haven’t been checking in on here recently, how’s it going? Need to start making this place a habit, because the other place is just getting really abysmal.

The Chicago White Sox win total for the 2025 season is set at just 49.5. I know we’re talking about a team that won just 41 games last year, but among full seasons since 1961 (when the MLB schedule extended from 154 games to 162), just five teams have won fewer than 50 games.

How extensive we talkin

You’re simply lying if you don’t agree that every photo of Austin Wells looks less like an actual photo of a baseball game and more like a photo from the set of a biopic about Thurman Munson

For the life of me, I can’t remember if Fireball’s hit song “You’re an Ocean” was on the soundtrack for the Disney original movie Motocrossed, or if it’s just gives off the exact energy of a song that should be on the soundtrack for the Disney original movie Motocrossed.

The NFL: we are going to give you TWO Monday night football games Us: will either one be watchable and fun The NFL: no

Things I say when my Poop Soup restaurant is absolutely BOOMING.

As we know, pitchers injuries are tied to velo/effort/overuse, but it’s always interesting because there really is no solution. Very few will risk performance to protect health when there are 10,000 guys behind you that are endlessly willing to ignore all risks for a chance to pitch in the majors.

Eggnog is one of those things that I absolutely love once per year, twice at most. My former roommate and I had the same feelings and it was perfect. We could buy the smallest container at the store, each have 1 or 2 glasses, not throw any away and not have to drink more of it than we cared to.

Fun fact about James Augustus “Catfish” Hunter - He never went by Catfish. Kansas City Athletics owner Charlie Finley thought his players needed a flashy nickname, making up a story about him going missing as a kid before being found at the river with a string of catfish. Completely made up.

Fun Fact: Shoeless Joe Jackson did - in fact - wear shoes.

On Sept. 28, 1960, Ted Williams hit a home run in the final at bat of his career. 10,500 Fenway fans applauded for four minutes, hoping for a tip of the cap that never came. Despite all of their cheering, he never forgave them for their booing. “To hell with them,” he said.

In 1952, while pitching for the Class-D Bristol Twins, “thrower” Ron Necciai struck out 27 batters in a nine-inning no-hitter against the Welch Miners. The Miners did record one groundout, but a dropped third strike that allowed a runner to reach in the 9th opened the door for strikeout 27.

The Rays have shifted their Opening Day vs. the Rockies to Friday, March 28, at 4:10 p.m., per Ryan Bass. Rays fans will now get to watch a full day’s worth of Opening Day baseball around the league on Thursday. Then on Friday, Rays vs. Rockies will be the only game playing in the 4 p.m. slot.

So the full details look like $765M over 15 years with an opt-out after 5, but the Mets can void that opt-out by escalating Soto’s $51M AAV to $55M — which would escalate the contract’s total value to $805M. Steve Cohen goes out and gets his future Hall of Famer.

Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale once staged a joint holdout ahead of the ‘66 season and hired a business manager in one of the first major labor movements in baseball history, asking for a three-year, $1 million package for the two of them. It ultimately made them both the first $100,000 pitchers.

The Perfect Game that never was… In 1959, Harvey Haddix threw 12 PERFECT innings. 36 up, 36 down. The problem was, despite 12 hits, his Buccos couldn’t muster a run. In the bottom of the 13th — after an error and an intentional walk to Hank Aaron — Joe Adcock drove in the game-winning run…

Huge contract for Willy Adames in San Fran — putting him among the highest-paid shortstops in the league at $26M AAV. Slots him below Corey Seager ($35M), Carlos Correa ($33.3M), Francisco Lindor ($32.4M), and Trea Turner ($27.2M) — right on par with Dansby Swanson.

This always remains my only thought whenever there people start talking about the possibility of WWIII

Carnegie Mellon had one of the wildest field goal attempts I’ve ever seen

In an offseason where the catching options are pretty thin, the Rays land Jansen. I don’t think Tampa Bay fans should expect to get the All Star-caliber form he showed in Toronto, but a tick up from his ‘24 would still be a noted improvement over much of their C production last year.

Dave Winfield: • 12x All Star • 7x GG • 6x Silver Slugger • Drafted by the San Diego Padres (MLB), Minnesota Vikings (NFL) and Atlanta Hawks NBA) • 9-1 with a 2.74 ERA as a SP his senior year at Minnesota • 1 of 4 players with 3,000 H, 300 HR, 200 SB (Brett/Mays/Aaron) An ATHLETE

Working my way through this book today and it’s an absolutely phenomenal piece, vividly reliving some of those most magical moments and stories in baseball history. Highly, HIGHLY suggested for any baseball fan. ✍️ ⬇️ @joeposnanski.bsky.social
