Just finished this fantastic read from @joeposnanski.bsky.social. Not only is it a book that I firmly believe every single baseball fan should read, but I’d go a step further and argue that it should sit on every fan’s coffee table so that they can pick it up and relive it every so often.

As we know, pitchers injuries are tied to velo/effort/overuse, but it’s always interesting because there really is no solution. Very few will risk performance to protect health when there are 10,000 guys behind you that are endlessly willing to ignore all risks for a chance to pitch in the majors.

Eggnog is one of those things that I absolutely love once per year, twice at most. My former roommate and I had the same feelings and it was perfect. We could buy the smallest container at the store, each have 1 or 2 glasses, not throw any away and not have to drink more of it than we cared to.

Fun fact about James Augustus “Catfish” Hunter - He never went by Catfish. Kansas City Athletics owner Charlie Finley thought his players needed a flashy nickname, making up a story about him going missing as a kid before being found at the river with a string of catfish. Completely made up.

In 1952, while pitching for the Class-D Bristol Twins, “thrower” Ron Necciai struck out 27 batters in a nine-inning no-hitter against the Welch Miners. The Miners did record one groundout, but a dropped third strike that allowed a runner to reach in the 9th opened the door for strikeout 27.
