In 2018 Jesse Singal's story about how scary it is that trans kids exist dominated the front page of the Atlantic while stories about the lethal effects of white supremacy and our lack of pandemic preparedness sat up in the corner.

It's not echo of 1940. It's literal return to 1930s. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_and...

The Trump administration is now canceling people's Social Security Numbers, treating them as if they are legally dead. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/10/u...

Nothing captures the pathologies of mainstream media quite so clearly as the intimate relationship between the New York Times and far-right activist Christopher Rufo - who relies on the NYT to launder his disingenuous crusades, has said so himself publicly, and yet they keep obliging. Great thread:

Oh this is bad Expected but bad

This post manages to be not true *and* totally unpersuasive. Impressive stuff from the Senate Democratic leader! If you want to fight back against Trump's tariff power grab - and to make sure Democrats *also* fight back, as they clearly need a push - here's our resource. indivisible.org/tariffs

One sign that we are living under an authoritarian regime is that a lot of people are acting like they are living under an authoritarian regime.

@indysoco.bsky.social

We found the voter fraud!!!!!

According to my friend, Rafael Shimunov (see third post), TWENTY FIVE people in Houston attacked three young Afghan refugees because they were wearing hijab. Hatred toward Muslims, Arabs, and Palestinians has skyrocketed in this country and *a lot* of people bear responsibility.

New in PN: Trump tries to restore a grim era for workers "Let’s pretend that unlike his first term, everything goes right, happens fast, and factories are ready to start pumping out products in record time. What would those jobs look like? Bad. They’ll look bad. There’s no other way to put it."

Kings should not be in the White House. If they are there, they should be removed from office.

Then deny unanimous consent, you coward*

Literally everyone in the Senate is about to agree to go on a two week recess. Unanimous consent has been given over 500 times since Trump has been sworn in. So it’s not just the Republicans.

You set the house on fire, watched it burn, and then lost your nerve and put it out. You now have a partially burned house. Great job.

The credibility of the US government is completely shot. Gone. Annihilated. Nobody anywhere in the world can believe a single word that comes out of this Administration. Ever.

I’m not mystified by it at all. It’s part of the techno-fascist agenda. Curtis Yarvin has insisted that existing scientific institutions must be cremated in order to facilitate a regime change. These people believe that old elite institutions must die and be replaced by new, loyal institutions.

Today’s political climate is full of fear, in a way that seemed unimaginable just a few short months ago. That's why the April 5 protests were so important. www.headsupnews.org/p/april-5-pr...

It is very likely that nowhere near 75 countries reached out on trade deals, that most of the world is standing in solidarity against us, and that what happened today was another pump and dump scheme.

This is a bad look. Bottom line.

Louder, for all the would-be capitulating university presidents at other institutions in the back

The reason we went for this was the extreme frustration with bigger organizations just straight up refusing to call for the most obvious thing in the world: that Trump should be impeached and removed from office.

This is terrific and depressing as hell, and doesn't even mention the worst part for me. We were quite moved by the whole thing and watched the stream until the end. The moment the applause for Booker died down the Senate continued business absolutely as usual and confirmed another Trump appointee.

The intermingling of fascist paramilitary and propaganda groups with the federal government is a literal hallmark of fascism. Do with that information what you will and really sit with what it means that a stochastic terrorist is now essentially deputized by the state to do as she pleases.

SCOTUS has literally just ruled that, when the govt illegally sends a U.S. citizen to a torture prison in El Salvador, where they are totally incommunicado, that person must somehow petition the court for relief How? When the admin ignored habeas corpus in the 1st place, is that a viable option?

Trump sold a bunch of people into slavery in El Salvador—under false pretenses if that matters to you—and when a federal judge told him to reverse that, Trump unlawfully refused, and now the Supreme Court needs to give it a think; apparently they think selling kidnap victims into slavery has merit.

David Brooks is such a goddamn phony, which is exactly why the New York Times and The Atlantic and the Aspen Institute love him.

This dumb m**********, this smug mediocrity, includes in this piece several attacks on the left but not a single acknowledgement that unlike him a whole bunch of people on the left *did* see this coming, nor any hint that he is willing to learn a single thing from those who saw what he did not.

Shipping migrants to Salvadoran prisons is the new child separation in that it's meant to make people afraid to come here and more likely to self-deport. The fact that the regime can ship any migrant to a nightmarish prison that no one emerges from in rural El Salvador is a hell of a looming threat.

Trump’s Justice Department is currently asking the Supreme Court for permission to build a deportation machine that can disappear anyone, citizen and immigrant alike, to a foreign prison forever, permanently extinguishing their constitutional rights with zero due process. slate.com/news-and-pol...

We really are dealing with people who on a fundamental level don't understand what money is.

Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio #handsoff rally. It was nice to see so many positive people.

Excellent piece by the great @willbunch.bsky.social. Mad king, indeed.

Down 15% because the administration is very stupid

Trump tariff levels are based on a basic error in math and economics which he will never admit to because the most important thing is never admitting you are wrong even if you end up destroying the economy

Doug Emhoff is very concerned about his law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher bending the knee to the Trump regime but he still won’t leave it. This is Susan Collins kind of lame tbh. Pathetic.

If @willbunch.bsky.social wrote it, you should read it.©

I hated it when Trump 2.0 started and it seemed like protests weren't going to be a thing this time around. I'm so glad to see a big turnout today. It's always good to know you're not alone.
