Primary every Democrat who is not meeting this moment. Get rid of them all.

NEW: NSF will be kicked out of their building. Announcement will be made tomorrow by HUD Sec. and Governor of VA. HUD will take over the NSF building over the next two years. NSF staffer: "There is no planning for NSF, no identified future location, appropriation for a new building or a move."

I’ve been waiting for this moment for thirty years

Maybe someone should find an anti-authoritarian “playbook” and use it? Just a thought.

Scientists will decry the destruction of NSF as an “attack on science,” but — as with NIH — it isn’t. It’s an attack on *higher ed*. Those institutions are means, not ends. That’s why it’s happening now, not months ago [1/x]

Ah, the old maximalist cascade.

Can’t wait for the centrists to arrive at the obvious question: what will it take to stop billionaires or even trillionaires? The civil / criminal punishments we rely on to deter corruption are 19C solutions for 21C problems. If they’re going to deter, they’ll need to be ‘adjusted for inflation.’

Good to see Godwin’s “Law” being exposed for what it always was: libertarian twaddle that enabled the spread of fascism by disabling those who pointed it out.

I wonder who Trump will appoint as Pope

THIS is the discussion we need: law schools need to rescind the degrees of fascists who are actively and deliberately tearing apart the Constitution they swore to serve.

Pls take a minute to send a 📬 to all of NYC's mayoral candidates to tell them that "our libraries deserve at least 0.5% of the annual city expense budget in the upcoming budget and into the future." Our libraries — if well resourced! — help us preserve the civic realm! And please spread the word!

I’ve predicted this for months. It’s rubbish, but it’s YA escalatory step; there will more. Trump’s goal is to *shutter* CU. The real trouble will come this summer when fac and students abandon schools to admins, because vacay matters than defending institutions. counter.ink/blg/new/2025...

“From April 14-18, select UBC graduate programs at UBC Vancouver will re-open their applications for US citizens to be considered for Sept 2025 or Jan 2026 entry - they are ready to provide quick admissions decisions for these applicants“ #gradstudent #gradschool www.grad.ubc.ca/us-applicant...

Maybe this is when we find out if they believe in money, or if they will throw that out like every other belief and principle. If they choose Trump over the dollar then all that’s really left is the void

I feel better already

the completely unedited substack personal / politico-cultural / vaguely critical essay is almost becoming its own genre. it is our cronica or feuilleton, however debased

Oh, joy, now Hill has a new avenue for untimely, tone-deaf, look-at-me twaddle like her recent NYT op-ed: “In a dangerous and complex world, it's not enough to be strong. You must also be smart. As secretary of state I argued for smart power.”

Fixed that for you

So it's increasingly looking like the current occupants of the executive branch have been using off-the-shelf LLM chatbot "AI" to figure out how to set and apply tariffs, and fuck knows what other aspects of policy. In related news, I'm really seriously considering taking up smoking again.

what, an idea that isn’t just “hope they don’t pay attention to us”??

Mr @Elonmusk We are hearing that the great Andrew Cuomo could use your support to stand up against the radical left . Please consider offering your powerful support

Gosh... Columbia, Penn, Harvard, Princeton... If only those schools, I dunno, formed some a sort of a club and gave it a name, maybe they could work together.

From 2020. I think this should be filed under “premature antifascism.” Criticize it if you like, but if you do I’d be grateful — genuinely — if you give a pointer to someone else who was making this argument this bluntly back then.

This exciting resolution from Rutgers University Senate is exactly the kind of model I think higher ed needs: a mutual defense pact of, in this case, Big 10 schools. They call for member institutions to create a joint defense fund and make resources available to any member institution under attack.
