Deregulation: so people can die for cheaper eggs

We should figure out who is in charge of this company that keeps failing at space and make sure they are never put in charge of anything to do with our government.

BREAKING — The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has just announced the closure of major regional offices in Philly, LA and Chicago, per email shared with me. “5 alarm fire,” SEC employee tells me. Full email text:

Here's the thing: when you fire a lot of people at Twitter and something breaks (ie, you make a mistake), the consequences are minimal. I can't believe that this needs to be said, but Twitter ≠ the federal government. Mistakes can cost lives.

I'm late to sharing this, but I'm so disappointed in MSNBC's decision regarding @joyannreid.bsky.social. Joy was unafraid to call out those in power, which certainly made her some enemies, but IMO also made her indispensable. And beyond that, she is a good human. We need more of all of this.

The wealthiest man in the world spent hundreds of millions of dollars to put Trump in power, and one of the first things he did was to starve children. You decide if that was a feature or a bug.

The only message we can take from the Chiefs getting shut out in the first half is clearly that God is angry at Harrison Butker.

Yes we Ken!!!

So the tower was understaffed, yet our President, VP, SecDef, and Sec of Transportation faced the press and universally blamed DEI. Perhaps because they are in the midst of actively understaffing every single federal department. nytimes.com/live/2025/01...

We currently do not have an FAA Administrator, because the previous one was forced out by the billionaire who got Trump elected and was given unchecked authority in return. He was forced out because he tried to fine the billionaire's space company for operating unsafely.

One of the most depressing/maddening developments of the past year or two is the cycle of a tragedy happening, Republicans immediately theorizing that under-qualified people of color may be to blame, and everyone just accepts this blatant racism as a fact of life with no consequence for the racists.

A restaurant up the street from me (in an area Trump won) posted this several hundred word, detailed explanation of why the cost of eggs is soaring, and therefore why they have increased their prices. It’s accurate/understandable. Yet a few months ago it would have just been pinned on Biden.

How bad have things gotten for Dems in FL? In 2020, new registrants there were +4 GOP. In 2024? +20 GOP.

In case anyone is wondering how the Trump presidency is going for the Republican party, in a special election for a state Senate seat in IA, the Dem candidate won Clinton County by almost 4 pts. Trump carried that county by 19.

We should not be shocked that when you pardon someone who was convicted of beating a police officer, they might get into more altercations with law enforcement. Thank God the officer was not harmed in this instance.

MAGA Logic: Pardon those who assaulted police officers in support of Donald Trump, fire those who did their job and followed the law in prosecuting Trump.

It's funny that the GOP have convinced themselves that DEI equates to hiring unqualified people, while they are elevating the qualification of MAGA loyalty over any actual skill or experience.

Let's also keep in mind that turnout was generally down among Democrats AND Republicans, relative to 2020.

The exit polls show Biden winning 69% of Hispanic voters in PA in 2020, and Harris at 59%, a 10 pt drop. If you look at the turnout data, in 2020 67% of Hispanics who voted there were registered Dems. That dropped to 58% in '24, a 9 pt drop.

We have the PA turnout data. Dems lost this election on voter registration over the 4 year cycle, and turnout. And for the first presidential election in what is likely a very long time, the total turnout from registered GOPs exceeded that of Dems.

Free speech something something

Where I work, DEI programs have made our companies more successful, and better places to work. That work will continue. Trump dismantling DEI in the federal government is a massive mistake, and will make our government less effective. And the companies that are following suit will suffer as well.

Working Americans, winning with Trump already!!! So much winning!

I thought about calling out the CEOs who attended and funded the inauguration, asking if they support pardoning violent police assailants and seditionists, but it's not like this was a surprise. They're supporting Trump because they've done the math and believe this is the more lucrative path.

For the people who violently assaulted police officers in an attempt to overthrow our democracy

Day 1 and the party of: "law and order" released insurrectionists who brutally attacked police officers "working Americans" gave the richest man in the world a White House office and staff "defending the constitution" already violated the 14th amendment What else?

Sure, why not. Every member of the Trump family should make billions off some unknown combination of easily manipulated Trump supporters and an assortment of people seeking to buy off a president.

We have the turnout data for WI. As was the case almost everywhere, there was no great surge in GOP turnout, but rather Dem turnout fell off, relative to 2020, by more than GOP turnout did.

I'm vexed by Dem leaders capitulating to Trump before be even takes office, and adopting the narrative about inflation as the number one priority. This shows how many 2020 Dem voters stayed home in '24 (and are still registered) in BG states with party reg and turnout reported.
