Oh my GOD.

You don't need to be a lawyer to understand how people are being disappeared. Listen to this neighbor... www.facebook.com/share/v/12Fn...

THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT IS THE LAW OF THE LAND AND A SUPERSTATUTE AND THE PRESIDENT CANNOT UNDO IT. sincerely, a constitutional law professor who also teaches employment discrimination

Huge shoutout to everyone this is what a global boycott looks like. Tesla just reported a staggering 71% drop in profits compared to Q1 of 2024. It’s working. Keep the pressure on.

In case you hadn't noticed:

This is why I've said that Bukele is playing a dangerous game by feting Republican visitors while snubbing Democrats. The more he's seen as essentially an ally of Trump (and not the United States), the more he imperils U.S.-Salvadoran relations in the long term.

What this describes isn't deportation. It's imprisonment abroad at US taxpayer expense with no trial.

PREA is the Prison Rape Elimination Act.

The Trump administration literally just cut the contract for ongoing audits of the Prison Rape Elimination Act, the extremely bipartisan law (unanimously passed in 2003) that requires jails and prisons to take rape seriously and adopt policies designed to make it less likely to happen.

Durbin retiring will fundamentally reshape how immigration is debated in the Senate. For decades, he's played a leading role in shaping Dem immigration policy (he was behind the first push for the Dream Act over 20 years ago). Now with him gone, new leaders for the issue will have to emerge.

It should horrify you that it took a major media organization publishing a full investigation into the forced disappearance of a Venezuelan man for DHS to admit where it sent him and what his current location is.

When a federal judge is calling the US government out for a “temper tantrum … worthy of a 3-year-old” that’s not a good sign!

Aaaaaand this is why it’s important sometimes to get more information before hurling theories about, a lesson I will take myself as well.

I don’t think this directly contradicts DHS; it’s been known for ages that the allegation came from PGPD, not Hyattsville PD. It certainly does lend credence to those pointing out his arrest in 2019 isn’t sign of anything nefarious.

Pope Francis, the first Latin American and first Jesuit to ascend to the papacy, was a stalwart defender of the rights, dignity, and humanity of immigrants and refugees: americasvoicecnn.substack.com/p/pope-franc...

Migrant children in shelters appear virtually in immigration court proceedings swiveling in chairs, walking in circles, and playing with their hair while judges decide their fate None of them have lawyers because Trump terminated a $200 million contract funding attorneys for unaccompanied children

The heartbreaking video recreation from some years back is real: children appear in immigration court proceedings with no representation because there’s no right to counsel at the government’s expense. In my limited experience, by far most unaccompanied children would get to stay, if helped.

My uncle went on Ritalin for ADHD as a teenager in the 60s.

Exactly the same as the first time. People with prior orders of removal, that were allowed to stay for humanitarian or diplomatic reasons, and have been checking in with ICE for years, are the low hanging fruit and so get grabbed at check-ins and detained and deported.

The immigration courts have been distributing these FALSE fliers around the country. They claim self-deportation is “safe” but anyone who left during the removal process would automatically be subject to legal bars on reentry and could end up in a worse spot than going through the court process.

An underappreciated aspect of what happened in March is that Bukele got the U.S. to deport someone under indictment in this country who had a lot of dirty laundry on Bukele’s actions before the State of Exception.

ICE went into the database where foreign students are tracked and deleted the record of at least 1,700 or more people because they had some minor interaction with law enforcement — speeding tickets, fishing citations, and other minor things. Judges are ruling that was illegal.

Pope Francis believed & lived: "But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, & whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, & to give his life as a ransom for many.” Every leader should live as a servant, not a king.

I always look forward to funerals too. Good times.

So glad that members are going down to El Salvador to personally investigate what our government has been doing to over 250 men we’ve sent to be imprisoned for no crime without any trials.

The party of family values.

can’t really be overstated how important it was that in an era where almost every single institution we have is being dragged towards fascism, one little old man devoted his life to shoving the world’s oldest institution towards more charity, grace and inclusivism.

“I want to be clear to all LGBTQ+ young people: This news, while upsetting, is not final,” said Jaymes Black, CEO of The Trevor Project. “And regardless of federal funding shifts, The Trevor Project remains available 24/7 for anyone who needs us, just as we always have.”

It’s been 27 days since ICE sent Andry (the make-up artist with “mom” & “dad” tattoos that ICE claimed were TdA tattoos) to be imprisoned in El Salvador. Thank you @repyassansari.bsky.social, @maxwellfrost.bsky.social, @robertgarcia.bsky.social, and @repdexteror.bsky.social for not forgetting him.

On March 15, 238 people were rushed onto a plane with almost no warning. Without any chance to see a judge or plead their case, the Trump admin sent them (and a metaphorical briefcase of cash) to El Salvador to be indefinitely imprisoned for no crime. We can’t forget them.

Yes. Watch the @60minutes.bsky.social segment. The photojournalist talked about what happened. www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/ven...

Over on X, a tale of the madness currently playing out with student visas is currently going viral on the basis of an astonishing quote from a judge calling what the Trump administration is doing “Kafkaesque.” The lawsuit is one of Banias. law’s emergency TRO cases and the quote is from 5 days ago.

Bukele trying to save face through some kind of “prisoner swap” of people neither he nor the United States has any right to imprison or barter like objects.

What this tells me is that no one asked the embassy to even check with its Salvadoran government counterparts.

"If you don't mean it, it's reflected very quickly" is the kind of thing we're experiencing on a global level right now. Sometimes it is as simple as "actually mean it."

This is genuinely the stuff of desperation. And judging from the way Rogan and others are looking at them right now, it's not working. The base is eating it up, but the base is shrinking.

He looks genuinely *exhausted* in this clip. Like he hasn't slept in days.
