I worked in pharm for many years. I invented early large scale automated chrom systems. I’m Familar with most downstream processing . While I have some lab experience most of my efforts were from small pilot to plant wide production.

Amino acids are fairly large molecules.
Depending on which ones your separating ion exchange or gel permeation is more common.
At process scale solvent usage is an issue due to future disposal.
