It may not always be the case that alternatives are needed (not that I'm saying we should not do so!) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braess%...

I think Tim has it right (but I do work for him). Secure the device, broker trust via parents.

Age verification leaves the onus on the provider - basically leaving niche/unregulated sources of porn available regardless. Add to that the ineffective nature of transactional AV, and the costs to providers, and you have a fairly unhealthy landscape

They're talking age verification being bypassed. Parental controls can also be bypassed, but as there's usually a more holistic and long lived approach, parents can often see the attempts to bypass and have a conversation.

This recent blog by @edent.tel supports this position! shkspr.mobi/blog/2025/06... For all their foibles, a password manager is still your best shot imo

Last time I was in Whitby I was in a place where the choice was haddock with skin, or cod without.

I'm considering adding some more crimes to the list...

Cod is one of the 3 crimes of fish and chips. The other 2 being cooking in oil, and leaving skin on

I've booked an Amsterdam trip for my friends' kids, their first trip out of the UK (9 and 13yo). Shortest plane ride in case they hate it! Only 3 days. Any hidden gem we should not miss in your opinion?

Take a leaf out of Europe's book. Walking isn't a terrible idea. Small investment on the route to the city would help, as would widening the ginnel up to Wortley, but that would require political good sense from lcc

Ah yes, spotted it in the kindle library. Hope you can get them all back in the light of day

I managed to track down a description of "numbers game", I definitely read that. Presumably in dead tree format?

Hmm. Now I'm wondering if I've read those. Best check. I loved bone ships, and I only stopped reading your latest series because of the length of the books (I was trying to hit 100 books last year)

Just think how much you will enjoy watching the play off final with absolutely zero jeopardy. I am not bothered about the football today, for me it's just the principle of being free to watch it without anxiety!

I hope not, but you do get that feeling

Someone tried to buy soup online with one of my cards. When the app pinged, I was in fact buying soup in person with a different card. So well played bank for differentiating my soupy proclivities

Labour hasn’t confronted Reform’s worldview—it’s validated it. You can’t spend nine months echoing your opponent’s values and then act surprised when the public decides to go straight to the source.

I stand corrected. (obviously I'm now going join the reform party and complain about my free speech or some crap)

Platypus also lays eggs, so it is possible to make platy custard

At least all these dingbats won't be picking it off the carousel by mistake

I'd say ask sky if you have to have an engineer over to switch (I've heard in some cases there's 2 lots of fibre). If it's the same fibre, it's likely worth switching for cost. My neighbour switched away from a troublesome voda fibre, and her connection seems less haunted now.
