She brought attention back to an ongoing crisis. People have tuned out and don’t know how truly horrific the situation in Gaza is. It may have been a stunt, but she drew some attention back toward Gaza. That’s difficult in a time where the US is doing its best to outcrazy the rest of the world.

No, I’d rather you not use words at all that are derogatory towards women. Call her corrupt. Call her evil. Say that’s she’s a lying hypocrite who lied on her immigration papers. You can even point out that she probably did sex work, but language like what you’re using hurts all women.

The problem is that you’re using “hooker” as an insult, and flinging around language like that hurts real sex workers by degrading them. She’s an awful person. Leave her (probable) sex work out of it.
It’s a little like calling someone a slur and saying it’s ok because they’re a bad person.

We can talk about her faults without shaming her for her probable sex work. Be better than the people we’re fighting.

Their only evidence a single traffic stop three years ago, and he wasn’t charged. I’ve seen no evidence that he was part of a smuggling ring. Have you?

Musk is fine with authoritarianism. He’s just butthurt because Trump didn’t give him enough handouts in the stupid bill they’re trying to pass right now.

That’s funny, when I was in Ireland Coors Light was on tap in just every pub I visited in Dublin and Limerick (even areas that weren’t touristy). Thought it pretty odd at the time.
Not a fan of the beer or the company, for the record.

It’s probably ninety degrees down there and they’re wearing full gear, in the sun. There’s no rioting. They know this is bullshit.

I moved to Portland about eight years ago (I’m in the eastern side of the state now). It was still in the 50s and low sixties well into mid-June back then. It shouldn’t be this hot this early, here or back in Portland.

I’m pretty sure Portland has since banned gas-powered leaf blowers (for being a public nuisance).
There’s some fairly powerful electric models nowadays though.

Exactly. Look to tactics used in Portland by protesters during the BLM protests.

He’s still fucking over red states too though. Alabama had to practically beg for disaster aid. Oklahoma too I think? Hurricane season in the south is going to be a complete shit show this year.

I’m not sure, but the choice may have been to either prosecute this case or step down. I’m not sure if a prosecutor can just say no if told to prosecute a case.

I get the joke, but there’s no way that Trump would use taco sauce. Too spicy.

I was defending the use of the term when the women your with are comfortable with it. You guys seem to be insisting they use it it at all is wrong.

When did I say I was calling someone something they didn’t like?

Another way that you could look at it is that the word is evolving into being gender neutral. Language does change over time. Women are dying from unviable pregnancies and a prosecutor in West Virginia is warning that women can go to jail for having a miscarriage. Things like this are a distraction.
comment in response to

Alternatively, I can continue to call my friends who are women “guys” because I know they they aren’t offended (because they use the same language). Suggesting someone isn’t a feminist because they use a common colloquialism is far more divisive than the term itself.
comment in response to

I call women guys all the time. I think it depends on the context. I wouldn’t walk up to a trans woman and say something like “what’s up my guy” because I’d clearly be acting like an asshole.

Maybe it was just the part I was in. I was working on a forestry project, and I remember them telling us that if we hear or see people coming through our camp at night just to let them be because they were looking for a better life. I haven’t heard that out of Texas in awhile.

I remember visiting west Texas twenty years ago and feeling that even though the area was extremely conservative, they had more of a “live and let live” attitude as long as you don’t interfere with what they perceive their rights to be. It sounds like that has changed.

He does live in coastal Virginia, so there’s a chance. I’d rather not think about it though, I have a lot of friends and family there who definitely didn’t vote for this.

If you’re in the right climate, peonies are another easy option. I’ve dug them out of the yard and transplanted them with almost no skill, and they still came back and bloomed.

Some may be J6ers, but they’re hiding their faces because they know what they’re doing is wrong, and they’re doing their best to avoid the inevitable repercussions. If they show their faces then people are going to figure out who they are, where they live, where they go to church, etc.

Seems like when he directly asked them why he was being detained it would have been a good time for them to clarify the situation. This is shoddy police work.

Harassing someone for walking down the street and maybe smelling like weed isn’t good police work. All it does is create a bigger rift between police and the people they’re supposed to be protecting. Good cops know this.
comment in response to
post
No. Good cops don’t “rattle doors” when they’re on patrol. Even if they smelled cannabis, what harm is this guy doing just walking down the street smoking a joint? Even if it’s not a legal state, it’s a victimless crime and an excuse to harass people minding their own business.

The thing is, anti-vax nurses do exist. Nurses (and humans in general) are not infallible, and even highly educated people can be wrong about things in their own field. That said, I’m generally going to take a medical professional’s advice over someone who “did their own research”.
