Topics we touched during this morning's coaching session (with an iOS developer who already knows TDD): • Instead of little niggly unit tests where I don't understand the whole, let's write an acceptance test • Writing tests as comments first, then turning those comments into code

100000000% THIS Remember Mitch McConnell's strategy was to use unchallenged seats on school boards, city councils, etc to build a foundation of extreme right-wing power. Progressives need to do the same. This is why I donate to @runforsomething.net monthly. If you're willing, they'll help you run.

Taildrops is going to include all Tailwind CSS freebies I have shared so far! 🔥 I'm putting the last touches but it's almost ready and coming next week. If you like sneak peeks, check out the main layout, its logo (what do you think?) and the preview pane. 🫣

Want to tell the public what US government workers actually do, vs. the propaganda spewed by DOGE? This incredible website, "We the Builders," is asking for first-person testimonials from government workers about their actual jobs, and how they make the government work. www.wethebuilders.org

If I had a band or a label, I would do a punk cover of "No More Kings" from Schoolhouse Rock. And then I would gather a bunch of people to write a whole album of next-generation Schoolhouse Rock songs, with songs about Social Security and Medicaid and NOAA. I am not kidding in the least.

Got some exciting news! We’re going to be hosting an indie game market at PaxWest! You can read more about it here: www.alwaysawake.games/pnw-tabletop... Application open March 1st! Happy to answer any questions here or you can join us in the US Indie Markets discord here: discord.gg/rRp4F2TK

In a tabletop game, each action and component should feel valuable, useful, and sufficiently interacted-with. Reasons: 1. unused possibilities and components can frustrate players. 2. creating a use for something not normally used can create delight. Examples of each: 🎲✂️🧵(1/5)

I have been so excited since I found out this would be announced today! RIP any ability for me to concentrate: www.apple.com/tv-pr/news/2...

Ideally, game components should "telegraph" game mechanics: A player who doesn't know the rules should be able make a good educated guess about how to play by looking at a game's setup. Tips for ensuring this happens, and also my current favorite example: 🎲✂️🧵(1/8)

If you'd like an alternative look I made a free icon pack. hinokodo.itch.io/human-made (a positive spin on the idea, rather than defining your work as "no ai" it's "human made". ) similar idea. And frankly there should be a ton of these things to fit a multitude of projects.

Imagine if you added features to software according to a steady flow of feature requests. You take a feature request and, to make sure you understand it, clarify and specify what constitutes acceptance of the feature in some detail. In fact, just to be sure, make the acceptance criteria executable.

The Cat Vs Human Kickstarter is in its final hours. @pizzacakecomic.bsky.social and @jasonanarchy.bsky.social have been doing some excellent work getting this together. It's exciting to see everything come to fruition. You can check it out here. www.kickstarter.com/projects/dri...

Throw your support this way!

today's free social media advice for sitting legislators: you gotta stop logging on to say "this is unacceptable" unless you are prepared with a CALL TO ACTION or to tell us what YOU are CURRENTLY doing about it. saying "this is bad" but louder helps nobody.

What would a TV ad promoting alternatives to driving look like? What if people who love cycling and progressive transportation reclaimed ideas like freedom, independence and even patriotism? We decided to give it a shot. Check out our new video, "America, It's Just Like Riding a Bike."

"Great writers do all the reading. [If][ you want to get to the bottom of something, you have to dig your hands through the shit.... With Netflix, doing the reading, or doing the watching, carries an added layer of significance because the company makes movies that are designed to not be watched."
