A number of federal agencies, from HHS to the USDA, have laid off employees only to rescind those terminations days later. An expert says it "suggests something about mismanagement of government."

For every $1 the IRS spends auditing the top 1%, it can collect $13. For every $1 the IRS spends auditing the top 0.1%, it can collect $26. Laying off 7,000 IRS employees (during tax season) isn't about efficiency. It's about making it easier for the rich to evade taxes.

“[H]ow does it not benefit the public interest to have clean bathrooms? How does it not benefit the public interest to have safe and clear trails. I was doing those things at a high level. And that’s on top of the collateral fire duties with the National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service.”

IMTs are quietly talking about what the current political environment means for this year's wildland fire suppression efforts, but it deserves a larger and more public consideration. 1/

Flow is a cool movie. Beautiful escapist entertainment.

Here is the oath all executive branch employees take. It is to support and defend the Constitution, not to “implement the president’s agenda.” If the two purposes diverge, the Constitution prevails.

History buffs will know that every authoritarian leader eventually converges on some version of: "I *am* the state. I can not break the law, I am the law, the law is instantiated in me." Our march to authoritarianism so far has been excruciatingly by-the-book. Hitting every beat. No surprises.

Our military will soon be asked to make a very stark choice. There will be mass unrest in this country as these disastrous changes take effect. Trump will invoke the insurrection act at some point. You will be ordered to inflict violence on your fellow citizens. Think through this before it happens.

Trump administration wants to un-fire nuclear safety workers but can’t figure out how to reach them www.nbcnews.com/politics/nat...

Reminder of protests on Monday (President's day).

🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨 Stop the Coup! Nobody voted for Elon Musk! @riseandresist.bsky.social Tesla showroom!!!

This was published in Oct. regarding Russel Vought. A major player in that Project 2025 thing that Trump falsely claimed to know nothing about: www.propublica.org/article/vide... Vought now has two posts in the Trump admin: Head of the OMB and of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)

During the 1930's and 1940's, the Germans were promoting a group they made to promote fascism in America. This group was called...... AMERICA FIRST It's members got republican politicians to spread nazi propaganda. This group also attacked America directly by blowing up an ammunition plant.

NEW: ProPublica has identified three lawyers with elite establishment credentials who’ve joined the DOGE effort. Two of their names haven’t been previously reported as working for the Elon Musk-led initiative. Here’s what we know about them:

New via NYT — The CIA sent the White House an unclassified email listing all employees hired by the spy agency over the last two years to comply with an executive order to shrink the federal work force. One former agency officer called the reporting of names a “counterintelligence disaster.”

Among the ideas internally kicked around the Trump and Musk teams was the thought of planting younger informers or “spies” in different parts of the federal government to gain the trust of offices and teams suspected of anti-MAGA sentiments. More: www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

For those that aren't familiar with fed jobs, you're placed on a probationary period when you're first hired or when you take a supervisory position. It's not anything sketchy, just a period of more active supervision to make sure you're doing the job and all is well. 1/

Not sure how to put it more clearly: Vought is the coup. Everyone who votes for Vought is doing a coup.

Nice infographic about the civil service.

Hi all, We’re still here at OPM. We have a situation where we MIGHT, and I do mean, MIGHT have four of Elon’s people blocked from the building. Can we get press or a member of Congress down here? We’ve blocked them for two hours and they keep coming back and trying to go in.

NEW: WIRED has identified six young men—all apparently between the ages of 19 and 24, according to public databases, their online presences, and other records—who have little to no government experience and are now playing critical roles in Musk’s DOGE project. By @telliotter.bsky.social

The men carrying out Musk's coup are Akash Bobba, Edward Coristine, Luke Farritor, Gautier Cole Killian, Gavin Kliger, and Ethan Shaotran. Make them famous. And, eventually, when possible, arrest them and charge them with multiple felonies. www.wired.com/story/elon-m...

Now, with alt text, to ensure everyone fully understands exactly what we're dealing with with the 19-yo Canadian calling himself Big Balls who, along with a few other nerds, seem to have had exclusive control over the United States Treasury Department since Friday

Civil Servant holding the line against tyranny. There is great bravery in refusing illegal orders. Brian Driscoll deserves attention and respect.

Dems can’t win by some parliamentary trick. Repubs have majorities in the House, Senate and SCOTUS. But they can embarrass the governing party, turn the public against them. Simple messages: The president is violating the Constitution. Planes are getting less safe and your hospital will go bankrupt.

Americans seem to have a very limited concept of what a coup looks like. Trump's coup doesn't fit that model. No tanks or troops on the streets, no overthrow of the chief executive. But what Trump is doing is still a coup. Extra-legal consolidation that ends checks and balances is still a coup.

The funny part is that this helps explain why so many Americans don't see it as a coup. We are used to seeing a coup as a "tanks in the street" kind of thing. Out own President just tossing aside checks and balances and ruling by fiat just doesn't fit that perception. But it is still a coup.
