And the chaser: agencies are scrambling now to advise employees how to respond to the latest email asking employees to list their accomplishments.

In the middle of the weekend, government employees at different agencies were told to respond to an email about what they’d accomplished at work… those who don’t respond risk forced resignation

Psst is coming to #RightsCon2025. Our Legal Director Jennifer Gibson will be joined by Ben Grazda (@accessnow.org), @telliotter.bsky.social (@wired.com), @sambiddle.com (@theintercept.com), and Gabriel Schubiner (@notechforapartheid.bsky.social). If you'll be there, come say hi! ⬇️

An honor to be shouted out by Will Bunch and Gil Duran 🫠

"Spend more on Elon Musk’s social-media platform, or else." "A lawyer at advertising conglomerate Interpublic Group fielded a phone call ... from a lawyer at X. The message was clear ... Get your clients to spend more on Elon Musk’s social-media platform, or else." A merger could be tanked. Gift!

NEW: DOGE put a $1 spending limit on government employee credit cards. Employees say overspending and fraud in the program was exceedingly rare. www.wired.com/story/doge-g...

More than 10,000 federal employees who had yet to complete their probationary periods have been fired by the Trump administration, including those who work to protect American agriculture.

(AP) — The IRS will lay off roughly 7,000 workers in Washington and around the country beginning Thursday, a person familiar with the plans told The Associated Press. @apnews.com apnews.com/article/irs-...

1. AUDIO On Monday in Fairbanks, Congressman Nick Begich (R-AK) told a constituent laid off from a job with the federal gov't that there was nothing he could do to stop budget cuts imposed by DOGE and Elon Musk Begich said he was "not in a position to approve or deny the cuts"

Having worked with more than one person from tech trying to “disrupt” another industry, I have experienced firsthand the arrogance of people who assume that other fields “can’t be that hard.” @brbarrett.bsky.social’s weekly banger DOGE newsletter sums it up👇 www.wired.com/story/doge-i...

Questions are. still swirling around the rightwing government of Giorgia Meloni following the shocking revelations that an investigative reporter and activists in Italy were targeted with spyware that is supposed to be reserved for serious criminals. Latest here www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

Google enables marketers to target people with serious illnesses and crushing debt—against its policies—as well as the makers of classified defense technology, a WIRED investigation has found.

SCOOP: USDS Engineering Director Resigns Anne Marshall, who was only promoted to the role in December, resigned from USDS/DOGE on Wednesday following dozens of terminations at the organization. "This is not the mission I came to serve." More here: www.wired.com/story/doge-e...

REVEALED: we identified the operator of an overtly racist X account, "GlomarResponder," as ICE Assistant Chief Counsel James Rodden, based on an overwhelming number of biographical details matched through publicly available documents, other social media activity, and courtroom observation.

Wired is working nights and weekends to report and we are able to do that because we have flexibility. But Conde wants us back in the office, without enough space to work. We won’t be able to do this kind of work in an environment that values punching in over the product

A great example of workers knowing how to do their jobs better than bosses: let these writers WRITE, let the reporters REPORT. They don’t need to put on makeup and commute to do their jobs. It’s a waste of time.

the thing is, i WANT to be working and constantly breaking news on DOGE, but this 4x/week RTO will get in the way of that!!!

Journalism gets worse when reporters are chained to their desks for no good reason and not allowed the flexibility to do their jobs. That's just science.

I literally cannot emphasize this enough

Condé staff work overtime to break news about Elon Musk’s government takeover at WIRED, develop new recipes at @bonappetit.bsky.social + cover the Grammys for Vanity Fair. We go beyond for our jobs, but Condé Nast is making us commute 4x/week just to check a box—& can’t even provide enough workspace

NEW, from @telliotter.bsky.social and me: SpaceX engineers have already been onboarded at FAA - an agency that directly regulates them www.wired.com/story/faa-do...

NEW: SpaceX engineers are already onboarded at the FAA. How'd they get in so quickly? By using a policy designed to fast-track federal employment opportunities for people with disabilities. from @telliotter.bsky.social and @aarianmarshall.bsky.social www.wired.com/story/faa-do...

NEW: Engineers who work for Elon Musk’s SpaceX have been brought on as senior advisers at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and were onboarded under a policy focused on “employment opportunities for people with disabilities.” read @telliotter.bsky.social and @aarianmarshall.bsky.social:

New from me + @aarianmarshall.bsky.social: SpaceX engineers were said to be simply touring the FAA on Monday. In fact, some were already being onboarded at the agency under a policy designed to increase “employment opportunities for people with disabilities.” www.wired.com/story/faa-do...

Not even DOGE knows who is running DOGE (because apparently it's not Musk, at least not on paper). From @makenakelly.bsky.social www.wired.com/story/doge-e...

Good morning! ICYMI yesterday: one of the six people working with "DOGE" at the Department of Education has not yet completed ethics or InfoSec trainings.

DOGE website has finally been updated with its "receipts" for savings it's making from cancelling contracts and leases. One entry claims DOGE saved $26 MILLION from cancelling a Dept of Labour lease....which is obviously huge. Except when you click on the details the actual savings is just $7M

Musk has been calling the shots, but there seems to be no actual administrator for DOGE.

The DOGE website missed its Valentine's Day deadline for producing a detailed list of the savings it was making, and now it's missed its second self-imposed deadline...

GRINDSET/INSPIRING: Elon Musk's man at the Treasury, who oversees multitrillion dollar payment systems, still working second job as software CEO, per email to Treasury employees. This is from @telliotter.bsky.social

New from me! Workers at the Treasury received an email confirming Tom Krause will officially be taking on the duties of the Fiscal Assistant Secretary. But he will still be keeping his job as CEO of Cloud Software Group. @wired.com www.wired.com/story/musk-k...

Instead of introducing pointless "every sperm is sacred legislation," introduce a bill—a Pro-Birth Accountability Act—like Sen. Mia McLeod introduced in S. Carolina in 2019. I call it a "F**k You, Pay Me" bill. If states are going to force people to give birth, then states should pay for it.

NEW: The General Services Administration, staffed at its upper levels by Elon Musk associates, plans to sell 500-plus buildings—some of which house government agencies and the offices of US senators.

The White House has designated Mr. Musk’s office, United States DOGE Service, as an entity insulated from public records requests or most judicial intervention until at least 2034 (Important reporting here by NYT Minho Kim) www.nytimes.com/2025/02/10/u...

A Lithuanian adtech firm sold sensitive U.S. intelligence and military worker location data to a dodgy and unregulated Florida data broker, who then sold access to any nitwit with two nickels to rub together. @wired.com (and @wyden.senate.gov 's office) continue to do amazing work on this stuff:

NEW from @makenakelly.bsky.social: Chief Information Officers of at least three federal agencies have been replaced by Silicon Valley execs, including from Palantir and SpaceX. This could make it easier for DOGE engineers to access sensitive government systems: www.wired.com/story/elon-m...
