According to doi.org/10.1103/Phys... , the computational performance speedup here is of the order of three orders of magnitude (see Tables V, VI), and the agreement with empirical values is superior (see page 8).

That sounds like a great idea! I don’t myself have the background in data science or experimental astronomy to set this up, but perhaps there are others who might be able to do this (or point to existing efforts in this direction).

It looks like this number was $2.46 in 2024, but $2.64 in 2022: see www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/wp-content/u... and www.researchamerica.org/2023-oped-us... . It would make sense to update to the more recent number, though.

I believe it was created by researchers in the biomedical sciences working with administrators at multiple universities that will be severely impacted by the proposed funding changes. Several of these are also involved in a lawsuit against the executive order.

The problems used to score the public leaderboard are not shared openly (for much the same reason as the questions on an ongoing exam are usually not shared in advance) but some sample problems of comparable difficulty can be found on the site.

Just hours after I posted this, the 20/50 target has been reached! The submissions will need to be reviewed to ensure that they are compliant with the eligibility requirements for the prize, but provisionally it appears that the $20K Early Sharing Prize will be awarded soon.

This project originated from a public lecture I often gave on how mathematics underlied many of the basic measurements one makes in astronomy: terrytao.wordpress.com/2010/10/10/t... www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ne0...
