NEW This may be one of the most important cases. Doe 1-26 vs. Elon Musk and DOGE Complaint: "Attempted government takeover" in violation of the Appointments Clause. www.justsecurity.org/wp-content/u...

Having someone tell you the issue is not just about race and much more “nuance” is always very telling

Lmao MBC made an infographic about Kendrick for its Korean viewers with commentators saying, “He’s really good at writing lyrics”

For @us.theguardian.com, I wrote about how Silicon Valley’s right-wing politics go back to the dotcom mania of the 1990s — and how they’re far more central to the tech industry than we’ve previously thought www.theguardian.com/technology/n...

They’re shortselling on our destruction.

“The launch of the KBO [baseball] is political. After slaughtering civilians in Kwangju, Chun Doo-hwan had to find a way to nullify the people’s anger. Music festivals and sports were introduced to divert the public’s attention from politics. Dictatorship effectively used culture to control people.”

Prosecutors indicted Yoon Suk Yeol on charges of leading a rebellion with his short-lived martial law decree—a criminal charge that could incur the death penalty or life imprisonment. Yoon has become South Korea’s first president to be indicted under detention apnews.com/article/sout...

I wrote about the importance of not getting caught up in useless conflicts. Some fights are so big and decisive that they demand our focus and participation. So, choosing what's worth our time and what isn't will make all the difference in these moments. prismreports.org/2025/01/23/f...

“Yoon, who had been wearing a suit throughout his initial arrest period, had to change into the uniform given to inmates, which bears an inmate number, and had mugshots taken for his official record.“

“President-turned-prisoner Yoon swaps suit for prison uniform, takes mugshot” english.hani.co.kr/arti/english...

🤦‍♂️

I know the media has been using arrest and detain interchangeably but there’s a difference. In Korean, detain and arrest are the same word. When they first apprehended Yoon, investigators only had him for questioning for 48 hours. Now he will essentially be in custody until his trial starts

Yoon’s been arrested

He really said he has hope for the future of the country because of young male incels lmao

Yoon shouting out his incel supporters is WILD

CIO says they executed the warrant to detain impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol to question him over his botched martial law decree

Many have posted that Yoon was detained but that’s not true. New information emerging that his legal team is hoping the CIO doesn’t detain Yoon today and goes in for questioning voluntarily on another day. Big question is how accommodating will the CIO be? And how trustworthy is Yoon and his team?

Yoon Suk Yeol hasn’t been arrested yet… His lawyer are negotiating for Yoon to go in for questioning voluntarily. They don’t want him to be detained because it would show a loss of authority

The ruling People Power Party, Yoon Suk Yeol’s party, is now claiming the Constitutional Court should be abolished—shaking the very foundations of South Korean democracy m.hankookilbo.com/News/Read/A2...

Those who stood ground throughout the night are being called “chocolate kisses” after wrapping themselves in silver thermal blankets to weather the cold as sweet protectors of democracy, looking similar to a Hersey’s Kiss. The holdout has been dubbed the “Protest of Kisses”

All night, pro-democracy protesters held their line against Yoon Suk Yeol near his residence, despite the snow and bitter cold

Special forces commander: “The president ordered us to break down the door and drag them [the National Assembly members] out”

As Yoon Suk Yeol’s legal representative continues to deny the insurrection charges, a new audio recording reveals South Korea’s impeached president ordered the military to break down doors from the National Assembly and drag out lawmakers after his martial law decree m-en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN2025...

Seoul is silent. There are no cheers to celebrate the coming of a new year. It is solemn. The bosingak bell rings into the darkness, in remembrance, to mourn the victims who lost their lives in the tragic plane crash and to wish their souls find peace

“Delightful, refreshing, satisfying”: the news alert that a detention warrant was issued for Yoon Suk Yeol broke as a constipation medicine commercial was airing

“Daughters of Korea Swallow your tears And with those eyes take in fully The unfading lights To protect your heart”

On the last Saturday of 2024, an ocean of cheering sticks shine like stars, lighting the bitter cold night of Seoul as more than 500,000 South Koreans protest to demand Yoon Suk Yeol resign over his short-lived martial law decree

Unbothered

South Korea’s National Assembly voted to impeach acting President Han Duck-soo after he took over for Yoon Suk Yeol following his botched martial law decree. The motion passed unanimously in a 192-0 vote, marking the first time an acting president was impeached by parliament

Hwang: “I’m so exhausted. I’m so tired. In a way, I have to say, I’m so sick of ‘Squid Game.’ I’m so sick of my life making something, promoting something…I’m just thinking about going to some remote island and having my own free time without any phone calls from Netflix.”

When your boss says something bat shit crazy but you just have to listen

Armed with light sticks, young women in South Korea are being heralded as new additions to the pro-democracy movement. But that’s not true in the slightest. Women have always been standing at the forefront in the fight for democracy m.pressian.com/m/pages/arti...

South Koreans are braving the cold and standing guard all night outside the National Assembly, in case there is another martial law declaration

The association waved its flag proudly at the protest today fyi

Wow. Yoon is putting the political responsibility on the party. Essentially, that if he sinks, they all sink with him

I’ve covered A LOT of protests in South Korea and I have to say this one feels a bit different. Why? Because for the first time I’m seeing lots of young people expressing their desire to participate but also their fears and anxieties, which is prompting conservations online between the young and old

I get that we live in a clickbait era but we don’t have to report rumors

for Korea reports by scholars who have knowledge of radical activism and movement history, please look to @terpsicoreans.bsky.social and @chrissuh.bsky.social !!!
