Primarily here because people I know are here. I write SFF books, wrangle my kids and cats and swear a lot.

Only works until they start using live rounds. Which they probably will at some point.

Yup. 2.5m active-duty US troops. Add another half mil or so for fed, state and local LEOs. Even if every single one of them were a Trump fan (and that's a BIG stretch), that's still not enough to take any major city without large-scale artillery. Not that I put even bombs past Trump, but still.

Megan McArdle, worst US columnist 8 years running!

Activism in this case is creating a space for marginalized people where we don't have to deal with an endless flood of violent bigotry. It's an indictment of the culture in general that a space with that kind of peace and safety is lower traffic. You're not helping.

For the slow out there, "whether they know it or not" means that just because the guy you're very publicly conspiring with to break the law doesn't wear a badge, it doesn't mean your ass won't be in a sling when real Feds scrape the convo and cite it in the search/arrest warrant. SHUT THE FUCK UP.

It was a COVID thing: objecting to having to show a vax card at various places.

Their job, in this case, is illegal itself since they're depriving people of due process.

For those not familiar with Los Angeles, please note that LA is not a war zone. Paramount is not a big part of LA. Trump is using this small protest for his own agenda.

Rolling the military vehicles through LA with a significant show of force was meant to do one thing and one thing only—incite protests that devolve into riots. This White House wants to unleash the military on citizens and take over (martial law) blue cities and states. This was all intentional.

My god god have mercy on our souls ICE went at full speed ramming the crowd

This is a full standoff between LA civilians and ICE now. The civilians are in control of the exit. ICE is mobbed up unable to leave. Civilians continue to barricade them in and all vehicle exits.

This is NOT saying that autistic people are unteachable. Just that you can't expect all autistic people to learn the same way or at the same rate. My son is in 6th grade and still occasionally has physical meltdowns, for instance. Other autistic kids his age may have more or fewer than he does.

My point, which you seem to have missed, is that every autistic person is different. What works or is true for one is not necessarily the case for all. AuDHDers, for instance, also usually have trouble with impulse control, and may not be able to stop themselves from saying or doing some things.

What's Loomer up to? I feel like this all started after she visited the WH the other day.

Thank you. On brand for my family, though. I grew up in far-right fringe culture. Sovcit stuff, Illuminati, etc. They once believed that bar codes were the mark of the beast.

My unvaxed dad died of a COVID-induced heart attack in late 2021. My mom still refuses to believe he was even infected. She thinks the positive test she had was a fluke.

It's worth noting, I think, that part of the problem is that no one on the right sees anything wrong with the idea of Trump preying on teens. It's hard to make hay out of something that's already baked into the public perception of him.

And the fact that the local right wingers are STILL mad about all that is proof that reducing the number of deaths was never the goal of any of the right-wing approaches. They wanted (and still want) to let the virus run to kill off the weak.

Washington was home to the first confirmed case in the US. We hit it hard and fast, didn't send kids back to school for a year, required vaxes of all government workers, etc. Had a really high vax uptake rate, too. Result? One of the lowest death rates in the country.

That's been my thought. Only question is who lit the fuse to get these two to fight.

Oh so they can bring him back? Handy precedent for the rest of these cases.

I once stopped reading a book halfway through the first chapter because the author had downstage/upstage wrong.

1. We don't use that term anymore bc Hans Asperger was a eugenicist. 2. It's a spectrum. It manifests differently in different people. Your daughter's understanding of social protocol is not representative of everyone else.
