Today is my 20 year anniversary of working in libraries! It's got me in a reflective mood and so I've written a little something about my librarianship journey so far and what I see as my plans for the next 20 years! www.linkedin.com/pulse/reflec...

We are currently firming up our AGM plans. Watch this space for date/time. We'd love to see you there!

Day tickets are now available for DARTs conference 21-22/5/25 The main theme is "Empowering Librarians to conduct and support research". For more details go to: www.cilip.org.uk/events/Event... Questions? Please email [email protected]

The CILIP Academic & Research Libraries Group (of which I'm secretary) are now on here. Please give us a follow and get in touch if you'd be interested in getting involved in joining us and helping put on events! @cilip-arlg.bsky.social

I've started running some "play with AI" sessions for library colleagues and am prepping the next one looking at the idea of "answer engines" and playing with Perplexity. As they're billed as an alternative to traditional search engines I thought I'd ask it something I would usually Google... 1/4

Really interesting & brilliantly titled article about postgrad research students use & opinions of GenAI. A more balanced outcome than a lot of the discourse around AI, especially when I heard an academic proclaim that the written assignment is dead last week!🤦 www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

With the #Oscars noms announced yesterday I got to work on my annual spreadsheet of tracking what films from the categories I had and hadn't seen in an attempt to watch as many of the nominated films before the ceremony. I've got 24 to watch in the next 5 weeks to tick off all feature length awards!

Have booked my place to attend the @uksg.bsky.social conference in March! Not attended this conference before so looking forward to it, the programme certainly looks very interesting. Plus, always a delight to spend a few days in Brighton! Anyone else I know on here attending?

Research finds that people with a higher level of AI Literacy are less likely to use AI tools. So obviously the recommendation of the article is that we need to scale back AI Literacy training! 🤦 No, no, no, no, NO! theconversation.com/knowing-less...

The number one movie at the box office on your 10th birthday is how 2025 will turn out for you. I'm taking this as a positive. Hopefully it means I'm going to inspire my students!

I like to keep stats on all of the films I've watched for the first time each year (something that's been greatly aided by the advent of Letterboxd) and then compile an annual list of my top 5 as well as an overview of key stats. So here's my 2024 breakdown! Would love to hear your favourites!

Out of office is on and I'm shutting down for 2 weeks. I hope you have a peaceful holidays however you celebrate (or even if you don't). See you next year! 🎄

I cannot recommend LILAC enough. If you're working with information literacy in any capacity it's such a useful conference. I've loved attending the last two years & am gutted that I can't make it to Cardiff for 2025. Keep an eye out for bursaries - fewer people apply for these than you'd think

I've had a crazy busy last 5 weeks of back to back support appointments with our Adult Nursing students as they complete their dissertation. Seeing them go from panic to understanding, knowing I've made a difference, has made it worthwhile though - that & this bag of goodies from the Nursing team

Happy #ChristmasJumperDay Frankly everyday is Xmas jumper day at the moment for me but today's the official one and offers an important reminder of the great work that Save The Children do at this time of year (and always).

Today Karl McCormack from Uni of Staffordshire introduced us to playful learning using Playmobil! We had to adorn a figure with 5 items that represented us. Was a great way of encouraging us to introduce ourselves to others with details unlikely to have come up in a standard intro This is me...

Obligatory "I'm on a train heading to a library event" selfie. Used to be up and down to London a few times a year for training and events pre-pandemic but far less opportunity to do so these days, so nice to have a little day out in the big smoke. Discussing inclusion in HE today!

If anyone was unable to attend my webinar on easing the transition of students from FE to HE from a library perspective, delivered for @uksg.bsky.social last Friday, the recording is now available here: attendee.gotowebinar.com/recording/12...

Massive thanks to all who attended my webinar with @uksg.bsky.social earlier today. I was so pleased that it seemed to go across well and am really grateful to those who reached out with kind words afterwards. I think this could be the start of something and I'm excited to see where it can go

Today's the day! Still time to sign up to my webinar on the transition of students between FE and HE! Don't think I've ever been as equally nervous and excited about something work-related - it's a bunch of ideas that have been buzzing around my brain for months now so will be great to get it out!🤣

Comment in the chat at the end of an online session I've just delivered to nursing students: "I should have married a librarian instead of a nurse" I think that's a compliment! Not sure how to record it on our feedback form 🤣

A reminder that in a week's time, I'll be delivering this webinar for @uksg.bsky.social's FE series (although HE colleagues are welcome too). I'm really looking forward to it and hope it might incite some important conversations in how we approach the leap from college to uni from a library stance

The next episode in our free FE webinar series: "The next step: How FE and HE libraries can work together to improve the transition of students from one to the other" | dub.sh/8VbLLi4

I'm delighted to be hosting a session next month as part of @uksg.bsky.social Further Education Webinar series, looking at how FE and HE libraries can collaborate to improve the transition experience of students from one to the other. Find more info & sign up here: www.uksg.org/events/free-...

Recently I was delighted to be contacted by Linda Bennett of Gold Leaf & asked whether I'd be interested in sharing my thoughts on academic librarians use of social media. I, of course, jumped at the chance & the resulting interview is now live here: blog.degruyter.com/taking-libra...

Having attempted to digest all of the brilliant talks I attended at #LILAC24 I've attempted to summarise my 19 pages of notes into 3 key themes that I spotted across the sessions I attended. Thanks again to the LILAC team for a brilliant conference www.linkedin.com/pulse/though...

Home & unpacked after an amazing 3 days at #LILAC24 in Leeds! A huge thank you to the conference team for putting together an incredible event and programme of talks. I feel so enriched by all I heard. I've got pages & pages of notes to decipher but for now it's sleep time!
